Looks like 03 Cobra's and new Lightnings will have something in common

I doubt it will happen! Here is my guess on it and maybe(probably) wrong but here it is anyway.
1) IMHO, I would think Ford's perspective on supercharged engines is that they are a thorn in their sides right now. Costly to warranty, and probably a big looser in the power train department on warranty work. What could be worse than 1 supercharged vehicle, I know: 2.
2) Unless they put back the solid rear axle or re-engineer the current, they will be breaking the butt ends of those things left and right.

On the other hand, Ford might be conceeding it is a looser to build and warranty but wants to make a big sell on the segment of the market that would of otherwise bought an LS1 Camaro(soon to die, Sept. 2002).
Just thinking out loud here!
I guess I'll go back to the Gen 1 board, sorry to stir the pot!:D
Later
Steve

Steve, when you say you doubt it will happen do you mean that you doubt the car will be made ?

I'm pretty sure right now it's a "for sure" deal.

Is it just me or does ford do things way too late? Now that the camaro and trans am are gone, they come out with some real power. HELLO!!! What is wrong with these people. Oh and buy the way, when dodge comes out with the new ram with 500 horses is ford gonna wait until it's discontinued to give the lightning more power? It's time for a DOHC and more boost, pronto!
I'm very happy the mustang has power for 03 but I still am dissapointed that they couldn't have done it sooner. Now they are going to have to compete with the vette....well drop in a 5.4 and get it over with. Quit Jerking us off!!!!!
Thanks for listening to me vent... AH! I feel alot better.

In addition to the 03Cobra, Jaguar is placing a SC in the S-Type..
Supercharged V8 making 400bhp @ $70k.

The example at the Detroit Auto Show was British green..

I agree - Cobra should have had this a few years ago..
Still have to give them credit for keeping there car alive..

The car will be unveiled to the public at the Chicago Auto Show in a little over a week. SVTOA members had the opportunity to apply to attend a preview on Feb. 5th (or 6th?) The local SVTOA President is going.

More front end weight bias...damn!

Wondering, if a car is unveiled at the Chicago Auto show, does that mean it is a for sure thing for the next build season? And do such vehicles show up after production with same said equipment?

"Shaaaaazaaam!!!!," that is one bad a$$ automobile. A little too late to compete with the f-bodies, but hey there's still the Z06...

Not that Ford and/or SVT have not done stupid things in the past , but inviting SVTOA members to a special preview would be monumentally stupid if they did not plan to build it as shown. Additionally why let the magazines see it already? All speculation of course...

Well I am going to be an optimist and assume that it will be built.

I've already warned the wife that I want to trade the 01 snake in..... Basically a shot fired over the bow :) Which I'm sure will draw several thousand back :D

On edit, apparently the UBB does not like me splitting assume into two pieces......

I'm starting to need this car. I hope the hp numbers continue to increase. I even heard possibly 420hp. Probably too good to be true. With 390hp, 3:55 gears, at 3500lbs. It should run mid to hi 12's. With a little work, that thing could be in the 11's on street tires. Yeah, I'm starting to need this car.

Guess since the dismiss of the F-body platform (I had a '99 & '01) they are gearing the snake up for bigger things like the C5's now.
Would been nice to see this as a 2002 Model vs The end of the F-body (which I was hoping to see a limited LS6 option, but I forget GMs primary goal is to only make suvs & trucks now)

I think Ford will definitely build it as advertised, but that price level is going to put it out of the typical "Mustang Guy's" price range. It will be in a year or so, when they get traded in, that we'll see some modded ones show up at the track. For now, it's going to be Corvette mentality drivers (most of them anyway, no offense to the Corvette owners who actually enjoy driving their high performance machine) who will buy them and drive them on the weekend and not race them. I really don't care for the styling of the '99 or '01 Cobras, but I will hold off until I see an '03 in person to settle on an opinion. Lot's of good upgrades though, and it is sad that they waited this long to engineer all the changes Mustang owners had been asking for for years.

More power! Bigger wheels/tires! A six-speed!

Think about one of these things, lowered, cold-air intake, chip, pulley, and 4.30s! Now that is a screamer!! IRS obliteration is all I have to say. Bottom line is they need to give it a live-axle rear and ditch the IRS (or go to a HD IRS like the vette has with drive-shaft size half-shafts).

Am I the only one wondering why it takes 281 cubic inches, 4 cams, 32 valves, 8 lbs. of supercharged boost, AND an intercooler to almost make as much horsepower and torque as GM's 346 cubic inch, single cam in block, 16 valve, normally aspirated, PUSHROD V8 (390 hp/390 tq. vs. 405 hp/405 tq.)? I mean, the 65 cubic inches is a definite advantage for the Chevy, I just think this mod motor should be making waaay more power with all of this added complication. I also think for all of the effort that went into the '00R's 5.4 32 valve V8 (385 hp), it should have easily surpassed the '02 ZO6's hp level. That's only a difference of 15 cubes.

I was led to believe that all of those cams and valves flyin' around inside a motor would make tons of power and Chevy seems to be making more power without them (At least with their V8's). Is it just me, or is The General smarter than what some think he is?

I *think* I read on www.ZO6.com that the Vette's LS6 motor has another 20 horse on the way!! Not 100% sure on that tho.

Now that I'm done bitchin', I wanna drive one!

I saw the 03 Cobra a while back at a presentation from Ford SVT. Sweet car, but I agree that the $35k price will put it out of "typical" Mustang buyers, this is BMW price range! I would love to have one, but I think the L is an overall value. I would agree that a detuned 4.6 DOHC should go into the GT's, say make 290-300hp and keep the 4.6 SOHC for a base "LX" version. In case anyone cares, ther was a 2002 run of Cobras. They built 100 about 2 weeks ago, but all are headed to Australia.
