Locker problems...need help!

I recently installed a new/used rearend with a auburn pro locker (i think, not sure about the brand) and the vehicle started making a poping, grinding, metal on metal noise after about 2 days of driving. One of my good friends and I disassembled the rearend, took the locker, gears, axles, etc. out. We completely cleaned everything, and inspected everything and it all seemed o.k. We put the rearend back together and the car drove fine. About 3 hours later the noise is back. GRRRRR!!!!! The locker in the rear has no clutchs just a hard spring pack. Is there any type of addative that should go in with the fluid(we used a GL5 fluid). It seems to really make the noise when the vehicle goes around turns with it in gear. If I put it in neutral, no noise. HELP!!
Thanks, John

Mine did the same thing except in reverse. I added some Ford brand friction modifier and it has never done it again. I used some modifier from a parts store first and it didn't work so I guess the Frod brand is alot better. Hope this helps, I'm pretty sure that will fix your problem if the locker was installed right anyway.

See, I always thought that you only use the friction modifier when you put in a new ring and pinion or a new locker...do you add it everytime you change the gear oil?

Yes, if you have an aftermarket locker its a real good idea to put some in there everytime you change your gear oil. I put two little bottles in mine then topped it off with the gear oil. I have'nt had any problems with it since then.

IS the reason you add this to your fluid to act as a defoamer.
is that the reasson it pops and cracks due to the foam, just wondering maybe a dumb ? thanks later DAVID

I added 2 bottles of the ford additive and it seems to have done the trick(so far at least)! I hope it was that easy of a fix. Thanks alot R/T Eater....John

No problem! I bet that fixes it, I would have never thought that it would be that easy to make it quit popping but, it is. I was worried for a while that it was'nt installed right, I could'nt beleive those two little bottles fixed it!

David,
I don't know what makes it do that or how that friction modifier works but, man it does work!
