Lightning lost VIR-ginity

Just got back from Virginia International Raceway. What an awesome track! Beautiful track, great facilities -- has to be one of the best on the east coast.

We ran VIR's full course (3.27 miles), which included lots of elevation changes, tricky turns and two long straights. Unfortunately, I was a rolling chicane for most of the weekend. :( I was in the instructor group with very experienced drivers, and I couldn't hang with most of them. Only passed two Miatas and a CRX the whole weekend. But after I swapped to race tires after my first session Saturday, it wasn't so bad. :) A few drivers commented that after I pointed them by, I wouldn't simply disappear in their rearview mirrors.

I ran Porterfield R4S pads up front, stock rear, with Ford HD fluid, and the brakes held up pretty well. Only when I ran the street tires in the first session did they feel like they were being stretched too much. When I put the sticky tires on, they felt a whole lot better. No fade at all, but I wasn't pushing 100% all the time.

Got a few pics of my Lightning on track:

There was another 2G Lightning there. I only talked to the owner briefly Saturday morning and I didn't find out if he was here. He was in the novice group and seemed to be doing pretty good. I took some pics of his truck, so hopefully they turn out.

Sounds like you did well! I'm trying to improve my driving enough so I don't toast my brakes. Too bad we're on opposite sides of the Country or you could show me a few things.

Great pix too!
