I am too lazy to go under and find out if the new converter has a drain plug on it????? I will be changing my fluid this weekend

I am helping Dennis do the trans this weekend (I can fit under the truck :D ) So how do I get the fluid out of the converter then?

Get yourself about a 3' piece of heater hose big enough to fit over/inside the pump end of the trans filter. Once you get the old filter out, cut the part that goes into the tranny off at the base where it meets the main filter. Put the heater hose on/in the piece you cut off. Stick the cut off stub back in the tranny & put the other end of the hose into a container of fresh ATF (4-5qts). Start truck & let idle till jug is sucked empty, about a minute. The tranny will pump the new fluid into the conv. and displace the old fluid. The old fluid will drain out of the tranny & into the drain pan. Install new filter and reinstall pan.

it worked

Thanks for the info SHAWN!!!! and yes it did suck all the new ATF up the tube and the old fluid did drain out only one thing :p it took about 18 seconds to exchange fluid in the converter. worked like a dream, This is why I am a NLOC member where else can I get such valuable information.

whoa, that is pretty slick :)

only thing i knew of was to pull the rearward tranny cooler line off the tranny itself, and drain it into a bucket while truck idles. but i dunno if that drains the convertor or not, although it does make it a hell of a lot easier to drop the pan and not get a bath :)

Shane, I mean Shawn, (sorry about that)

Like Dennis said, it really worked great. And for now on thats how i am going to drain my converters.
