If you only allow the paying members to use this site, then the few hundread paying members would ba all that you had here to discuss things and problems. You would be killing about 80% of all the feedback and information. The site should remain open to everyone.Closing it to paying members only would be the dumbest thing that could take place here. There would be NO interesting battles going on In WAR ZONE and we wouldnt get to see all of the cool cars that these guys have built that come here to post(and stirr us up).Just leave It like It Is man. It's a very popular site. And If you cut It off to just a few paying members then you will kill it out.Because everyone won't just say...OH I guess i better pay now. There are many guys on here who can only dream of owning a Lightning right now,but when they finally can get one, they will know everything there is to know thanks to all of our input here.;)

Uh, yeah.

Yeah, that's pretty much common sense. It's comparable to making people pay for email - it just won't work.

I'm not a NLOC member but was a follower of the old NLOC mailing lists and probably the FIRST person to post when the NLOC bulletin board first started. The board has been one of the main reasons that I still have the passion for my truck that I do.
I like the board's format because it is relatively loose and well organized. It gives many of us the opportunity to learn and help others out that may need help modding, doing repairs etc..

There are many on this board that have experiences outside of the lightning world that can share these experiences with the lightning community..Ex Engineers etc... I think to shut these people off due to a lack of membership would be stupid.

I have personally tried to help many people with my posts, pictures, experiences etc..and I have in turn been helped many a time when I was in need. I think the board builds a strong relationship among the users that would not normally occurbetween people who live so far from each other and probably have little else in common other than the trucks.

A good example is when I was having my speed limiter problems after my torque convertor install and could not diagnose the problem. A board member in Florida (STRUCKBY) actually sent his truck's computer out to me in California FREE just so that i could use it on my truck for over a month or so. Now we had never met and yet because of the NLOC board discussions he felt that he could trust me. I hope to be able to help someone else in the same manner.

Thus I think the board brings fellow lightning owners, and prospective owners together in an informal manner that is very beneficial to the Lightnings as a breed and it keeps up our competetive spirit.

I'm done.

LOL..ditch the smiles if you have to..but the pics need to stay.:D

Too slow?

If your getting complaints about it being too slow, then can you take a poll to find out what type of connection people use (dial up, cable, dsl) and for those using the dial up modems, what speeds are they connecting at? A 56K modem will prolly only get about 49k connection INITIALLY...and that's if you're lucky. The problem may not be with the site containing too much information and graphics. It could very well be the users' computers...slow processor, not enough RAM, slow connections...or just POS machines that are out dated compared to todays technology requirements...in that case, they can upgrade THEIR system to keep up with technology.

What do y'all think?

George

I think all the lightning owners that post here should become a paying member......it's only $30 for the trucks we all love so much

OK!!! I am gonna throw my 2 cents into this nickel conversation. What we have here is a failure to communicate.I have paid my dues and been a member since 1999, I just got the reminder to renew my membership a few days ago and the check will be in the mail this weekend. I agree with Angler we can'not limit this site to members only, but on the other hand, nothing is free in this world, we pay for information every day of our lives. I feel that asking people to join and pay the $30.00 menbership fee is not wrong either. Hell:eek: I have lost twice as much on one roll of the dice and one spill of the wheel many many times in Alantic City and what do I have to show for it. All this valuable information that I receive on this list has saved me 10 fold on repairs that could have been. Just one trip to a FORD DEALER on the computer can cost $80.00. The lessons learned from all the trial and error on this site is well worth the $30.00 membership fee. Yes!! there should be efforts to contact non members and request monies, if you can afford own this truck than you can afford to be a member(PLAIN AND SIMPLE):D I know that not all people will respond and become NLOC members but if just 25% of the people reading this realize what we have hear, it will make for a better over all web site

I would hate to see people banned from the site. Some of them are very interesting. Some are dumb as heck and get a good laugh out of them. Would be no one to flame for we could not flame each other right??? Maybe kick out pictures in signatures if that would help. Mine don't work right I think anyway.

Just my $30.00 worth. (which I did pay).:D

OPEN TO ALL!!!!!
THAT'S THE WAY IT IS AND WILL STAY!!!!!!!!
Sorry Guys
But had to make a point,if we need more money for more bandwidth, lets recruit more members, but I won't have a members only board:D That is a promise, and I keep them;)
So not time to panic, but lets try and recruit some more Lightning members:D
Thanks
Jerry:p

Hmmmmmmm. More paying members. I wonder if some Ford dealers would give out NLOC cards to new Lightning buyers when they picked up thier trucks?? Probably not but MAN would that rake in the members!:D

I agree with Jerry H. that this should never be closed to non-members. I do think that the Lightning owners who frequent here should GLADLY up the $30.00 membership fee. Heck, where else can you spend COUNTLESS hours a year for amusement and vital information about something special to you for $30???
Dont forget the discounts. Im buying a set of Ranchos from Mark a Lightning Force Performance. With the discount, Im saving more than the $30 membership fee!
Lastly, When your at the track, HAND OUT THE NLOC CARDS!! Even if the guy doesnt OWN a Lightning, but shows interest, give him/her a card. They might know someone with a Lightning and the card might end up in the hands of a new member.
But in the end everyone is welcome... :D

Here is just an idea, why not have all the moderators edit out there sections every so often. Not removing the important stuff but the info about meetings that have passed and things like that. And go through and start deleting so of the ended junk in the war zone (threads that don't get posed in anymore). This would save alot of space!

Just my $30 worth.

It's not SPACE, it's BANDWIDTH.

It's a battle I fought continually with the old site and it's what eventually shut us down over there.

I don't think it's a matter of growth, I think it's a matter of getting the pipe sized correctly for the necessary flow. And I also agree with the thought that it's probably sized close enough now. There's no reason to go tacking on more volume that won't be used except for a small fraction of the time.

It would really help, however, if everyone would take the pictures out of their signatures and reduce their signature space. Those things really eat a LOT of bandwidth. One of those photos in people's sigs probably eats enough bandwidth for a page of threads.

It was weird I thought maybe the ISP had us on a small box 'cause I kept getting server busy errors.

So I guess the 12meg .gif I was going to put in my sig is out of the question ? :D
