jeff and curt have it about right...
first off, traction is a
MAJOR issue. to put it in a nutshell, if i pull up to the line and floor it, the truck wont even come off the line until halfway thru second gear. she'll spin completley thru first, shift to second, and be dam near shifting into third before moving off the line...makes for great smoke shows though
install is/was a breeze. basically, pull off the upper, and replace with the K/B unit. biggest problem (as with most blowers) is vacuum leaks after initial install, but you wont know they are there until after first start up. makes the truck do weird stuff; idles bad, blows black smoke (oh wait,
that was from having the FMU lines reversed :b) but, pretty simple stuff to sort out. side note: it does help to have someones ear to bend to help out in this area...(thanks Jeff :tu: )
-----why did i pick the Kenne Bell?
#1- im a cheap bastard, and got a
really good deal on this thing..right at 2K for the blower, all the pullies, FMU, 2 chips, 36# injectors, spare belts, boost guage, fuel psi guage, pillar pod, boost-a-pump, boost-a-spark, and a few other things i probably cant remember...whooo hooo!
#2- i wanted to be a little different. (no offense to the centrifugal crowd

) actually, i was in the process of a twin turbo setup, but i fell into this and have put the t/t on the back burner until after i get the hang of forced induction. anyways, there arent
that many people running K/B, much less the Blowzilla model. the guys that are, and have figured em out, all seem to be well into the 12's or just a smidge away.
#3-
SILENCE!!! this thing is totally quiet. talk about stealth technology...its soooo much fun to rag on cars, and them not have a clue why they just got dusted
#4- im not a track hound, ive only been on a track a handful of times. this is more my street toy than anything else. as mentioned by prior individuals, for this sort of application, the Kenne Bell is a dam good choice. the low-end torque is unbelievable, and i havent even tuned this thing out yet
#5- resale, when i do decide that the t/t setup needs to come into play, it shouldnt be a hard sell to an eager young L driver
#6- upgradeability, i got 3 pullies with my kit, an 8, a 12, and a 15...i can only imagine what the 15# pulley would do to the afore mentioned smoke show
#7- no need to rev it to the moon to get the power to the ground. i dont know about y'all, but i actually felt a little guilty the few times i have banged the rev limiter when i was running nitrous. lets see,
full boost st 2000 RPM...need i say more?
-----for all its positives, there are 2 major downfalls...
#1-lack of intercooling. although there are some ways around this, a good intercooler setup would do
wonders for Kenne Bell fanatics nationwide
#2- customer support is alsmost non-existent. especially, if you dont buy it directly from Jim Bell...go ahead, ask me how i know
-----all in all, for a street toy, this thing flat out rocks. however, if youre gonna be spending a good amount of time on the track, then dont. in that case, the big power of a good centrifugal is where its at. otherwise, you cant go wrong with a Kenne Bell.
