Ohh forgive me maple leaf racer, they just send out chips and "forget" to program them correctly. That makes me feel a lot better Do they offer a flip chip maybe I can get one and they can forget to program one side for NOS :tu:

There is no stock chip. The CPU has a the stock program and a port on the backside to put an aftermarket chip which can then alter the stock computer settings..

No ones perfect..not even the tuners...the tunas say you "must have a chip" after installation of the valve cover breather......bahaaha...NOT! :m I have Zero Chip Status and call in a chimney sweep at least once a week...not once have I set off a code....breather cap....to cause a lean condition....naw These trucks run richer than "death by chocolate"...and that rocks :Y

FYI, my truck must have a stick up its *** because when I install my breather cap I get a Service Engine Light after about four drives. With the JDM chip burned for it, still get the SES. I sent back for reburn to fix the problem and STILL get a SES light. I guess on some trucks that little piece of **** $30 filter can piss a CPU off

If it did manage to start it wouldn't be pretty By installing something on the J-3 you are basically replacing a portion of the on board ROM. The PCM "looks" to the chip (or other J-3 device) for that area of memory as defined by the device on the J-3. Most EEC-V chips have a 32k chunk of bank 1 in them. Ford "mixes" in data addresses with programming so besides changing things like fuel, timing, etc, the chip holds a bit of programming.

My experience with breather caps is about a 50/50 chance. Mine likes it but I had to tweak a cutomer's truck to run with it. Easy fix though.

SCC2000L - I looked at breather caps as well a few weeks ago after spending a Saturday at Terry's shop. And found they recommended a chip.

L8-Apex - Can you enlightn us on the tweak you made for the breather cap? :tu:

The port is not there for a chip, people figured out what was going on with the J-3 and came up with chips and other add on devices.
