I've got some questions......

I've never been able to talk to JDM direct on my chip, I hear stuff off these forums or in person from other guys w/flip chips, so I still feel a little lost.

Which side of my chip do I want to race at the track with?

Which side of my chip do I want to dyno with?

Here is the numbers on my current burn: CXN1 4969 E2F

Here are my mods:
JDM Chip
JDM Cone Filter
JDM Boost Bypass
Oil Breather
Magnaflow muff
ASP 2# lower

I was talking to another guy about my previous ET's & Dyno numbers (before pulley & reburned chip) and he told me I should have had a 50/50 mix of 93oct & 100oct fuel when on the Race mode of my chip or I could do damage? (previous burn was: CXN1 TSJ7 E2F) I didn't know this. That is why I'm posting so I can understand this stuff a little more.

Fill me in please :)
Also, any tips for the track (I use stock F1's)??
Any tips for the dyno, strategies, what rpms to stop at?
Any direct info from y'all at JDM will be helpful. Thanks!

I don't have a clue about your chip but just a thought or two for you.

If you're expecting to mix 93 and 100 octane and get 96.5 octane, it ain't happening. I've read too many articles on that and the so-called 'octane boosters' and most of it is b/s. True, you may raise the octane alittle when you mix it, but nowhere near the 96.5 you are after. And adding the 'octane boosters' doesn't really raise the octane per say. It actually raises the threshhold for 'ping' which leads you to believe the octane is raised. And doubling the specified amount doesn't make it twice as good. Only minute differences were found by increasing the mix ratio.

As far as racing on the F-1's...You don't need a John Force burnout. It's a waste of good tires. And actually it makes the petroleum in the tire carcass come to the surface and make them slicker yet. Just a really short burnout or even just a good "wipe-off" without driving through the water box is all that is needed for street tires of any kind. Wipe them off one quick time when you pull out of the staging lanes and drive around the waterbox, back up to the edge of the water, without getting in it, jack it up against the brakes or preferrably a line lock and let it spin some until they are clean and dry. Let off the brakes and go straight to the starting line...no dry hops needed either.

Hope this helps some- Randy

Still Clue-Less on my post above.....

JDM, hello? <knock knock knock>
anyone home?

A few questions..

Rick,

A few questions for you?? When JDM burned a chip for you, he had to get certain information about your truck. He is VERY thorough in his approach. In particular, he had to have asked what octane fuel you were gonna run. And, he should tuned your truck for a 2 lb pulley, with a certain octain gas. So whoever told you you need a mixture of 100 and 93, doesn't know which octane is programmed on your chip. If you have a flip chip, what are yor two programs??? What are the differences??
As for racing on F1's, on an average track, you should launch at 1000 RPM and roll into the throttle. Push more throttle as you feel the truck push on you is a good rule. It is possible to pull 1.8 0-60 ft times on stock F1's. Do you have Drop Shackles? They help your hook and are an inexpensive but effective modification. Hope this helpds a bit.

I called JDM when they offered the NLOC package:

Flip Chip
Boost Bypass
Cone Filter
FMS Oil Breather

lady asked what mods I had done, I told her these would be the first ones, that was it.....Receipt said chip had a street & race burn.

My SES light came on 2 weeks ago, I called them and he send to send chip back, oil breather causes this sometimes, I also explained how I was gonna add a 2# pulley and add that into the new burn as well. (Sent letter w/list of all mods current)

Chip returned, I post a question asking about the new code on the chip, was told it has an aggressive street & warm weather burn.

No other information than that......

Maybe they should set up a Code Chart on their website and list a breif description & what needs to be done in that mode (ex: oct fuel if needed)

still lacking info from my questions above.....

Going to track tonight again, want to know what side of chip to run in street or warm weather (temp will be about 50 deg)

When it is cool race on side one
When it is hot race on side two

When I go to the track I mix racing gas when I run on side 2 of the chip(make sure it is unleaded race fuel)

I lower the rear tires to 27psi turn the overdrive off, and launch from idle. I ease into the throttle and once to the floor just hold it there.

I don't know to much about dynoing the truck, but I would say 3rd gear and run it up to 5300 rpms.

I thought that by adding 1 gallon of 90 octane gas and one gallon of 100 octane gas would result in 2 gallons of 95 octane.

(octane)(# of gal)+(octane)(# of gal)/total # of gal=octane rating

____1__2___ 3___4___5___6___7___8___9__10___11
1 96.0 97.3 98.0 98.4 98.7 98.9 99.0 99.1 99.2 99.3 99.3

11 92.7 93.2 93.7 94.1 94.5 94.8 95.1 95.4 95.6 95.8 96.0

The horizontal row is 100 octane and vertical row is 92 octane. If you mix for example 1 gallon of 92 and one gallon of 100 you get 96. If you mix 2 gallons of 92 and 1 gallon of 100 you get 94.7.

I guess I could be wrong...I would like to know for sure though. Thanks.

TX SVT Lightning,

Which side of my chip do I want to race at the track with?

Side two is more aggressive.
In the cold weather you might want to add acouple of gallons of 100 oct. to a quarter tank of 93 oct.

Which side of my chip do I want to dyno with?

Side two is 10 to 15 HP more than side one.

Here is the numbers on my current burn: CXN1 4969 E2F

Side one is the J49, good safe street program.
Anywhere to 91 to 93 oct.

Side two has more timming and the fuel has alittle leaner curve.
The J69 program will work with 93 oct. in really hot weather.

When the weather is cool we build more cylinder pressure which I like to see less timming and more fuel.
That is why the J49 exists.

And if you travel some areas of the country you can only get 91 oct.
Another reason why the J49 exists.

It is also good for High boost applications the J49.

I hope this helps
