Is this a threat ?

UK red

Just read an article in in Autocar 01/30/02 edition (a weekly auto mag here in UK, not sure if on sale in US). A truck produced in Australia by Holden which is part of the GM empire is going on sale here in UK. These are the performance figures.

0-60 5.5sec
Top speed 160mph
20.9mpg (UK galls)
V8, 5665cc
Max power 345 bhp @ 5600 rpm
Max torque 350lb ft @ 4000rpm
6 speed manual gearbox
Racelogic traction control

The truck is about the size of a Ford Ranger but much lower streamlined and more car based.

It costs a draw dropping £36,635 after taxes , how much is that in $ ?. The engine is apparently the Chevy Heritage LS-1 same as that used in the Corvette

Judging by the performance statistics, yes it is a threat. But judging by the engine statistics...no. Most STOCK L's have no problem with a STOCK C5 Vette, and some STOCK L's will take the Z06's too. With a few mods, the L will easily be above and beyond this little piss-ant! :p

and some STOCK L's will take the Z06's too

NO stock L can beat a Z06. Even if both drivers are competant and neither spin off the line. A stock Z06 runs 12.70's all day.

RT your buddy should check out HIGH FLOW HEADS In Alsip. Mikey did an excellent job on my LT1 heads. 400RWHP with FLP headers and the small hot cam.
I wouldn`t expect 100HP from heads alone tho and $2400 seems like alot.

Rickyracer....WAKE UP!! :):D

LT1, an older version of the LS1
Just an FYI, the LT1 is not an older version of the LS1. The 346ci LS1 was built brand new (97) from the ground up using an aluminum block, 6-bolt mains, etc.

I've owned vehicles with each engine and they both can be power-houses in the right hands.

Go to www.holden.com.au Go to showroom and click on commercial and then ute. There is an SS version with LS1 and 6spd. If you want the top dog go back to showroom and click on HSV.Then cars and then maloo. Also check out the Coupe. The GTS is modified by Callaway and if GM brought it here nobody would be talking about the Camaro. This car is hot and check out the colors available.HSV stands for Holden Special Vehicles.

'The first completely new Holden Ute in ten years, the VU combines class-leading driving dynamics with the flexibility of a smart workhorse. Its fully integrated sports utility styling is highlighted by flowing, rounded lines and a unique 'snap lock' flush-fitting tonneau cover. The all-new VU body structure shares the VX Commodore wagon wheelbase. Uniquely, the three-model range, Ute, S and SS, is equipped with independent rear suspension, endowing it with sedan-like ride and handling qualities. These are complemented by passenger car levels of performance, comfort, safety and refinement. Stronger-bodied and bigger inside and out than its predecessor, the VU offers greater cargo carrying capacity than before - a maximum of 830kg on the auto Ute. Fuel tank capacity rises to 70 litres, a dual fuel petrol/LPG option is available on V6 auto models. A 152kW 3.8 litre V6 is standard on Ute and Ute S, the SS Ute is powered by a 225kW 5.7 litre GEN III V8.'

Sounds pretty cool but I'm far from worried.

wow their finally producing that car? I have a picture and small article on it from a truck trend magazine that reveiwed the gen2 lightnings from a a year or 2 back.

It kinda looked like a more tastey done up but slightly smaller El Camino and it still looks like that.

In Australia they call that the Maloo. Sounds weird, but I guess it's an Aborigine word that means strong or something.
