In a quandry. Need some advice on springs.

Speedin Bob

INSANE Asylum Orderly
Spike, Stan, et. al.

I'm getting ready to order a set of 1" drop springs for my rig and am wrestling with whether to go with the FRPP, Hotchkis, or Eibach pieces. Any others I should consider? ;)

I had great results with Eibach progressive rate springs in my former Mustang.

I've sent Mark at LFP an email regarding spring rates.

The truck will mostly be used for commuting my kiester back and forth to work, drag raced once a month, tossed into corners often, and be able to handle auto X/track events (whenever possible).

Opinons and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

I could not of said it better.Don't waste your money on the bilsteins they are just almost identical to the 99-00 shocks as far a dampening and lbs to move the shaft. In fact I just did a 01 and put my old springs and shocks on it.And threw the bilsteins down the hill!!There are shocks that are cheaper than the QA1s' but have to pull shock out to adjust and will last a year tops. But they are also only about 65-75 bucks each.stan

A hir over 650 for the fts and rears.I can sell the springs for rite at 130 bucks for the pair in about any # that you want from 500 to 1700#. And they are guaranted to be and stay within 2% of that.Stan

Daniel, yes I can sell them tope to bottom.Have 2 sets on a stock order now 1 set is sold but will still have a set. Also look at the 4 link post you will see the brackets for the housing that I just finished up.So now all the pieces are done just have to assm.

Hey Stan. I've got a question on springs myself...<rut roh!> This concerns a comparison between the stock springs vs. the M3000-L springs. Yeah, I know they're shorter, but is the rate the same?

WOuld I be better off buying some of the Eibachs, and if I did, would they keep the truck at the same (lowered) height?

Thanks

Roger to answer your question I need to know what the spring rat is on the Motorsport springs.I do know that if you increase the rate you will quickly over power the shocks and your handling will suffer. As what I said early still applies if you want the smooth ride then use the progressive rate springs, but if you want predictable handling then the linear rate stuff is what you want.Sorry I could not help more but my Motorsport book [01]does not list them.Stan

Stan. thanks for the info. I don't know what the spring rate on the M3000-L springs are...anyone know for sure what the rate is and if they'reprogressive or linear?

I'm more interested in better handling than a boulevard ride, but I'd rather not shake out my eye teeth either. On a scale of 0 (boulevard) to 100 (full race) I'd like a 70-80.

For what it's worth, the Hotchkis/HAL shock setup is similar in stiffness as a my wife's 4x4 F250SD. I don't think it's uncomfortable but it's definitely sporty.

Hi Stan. Speaking of shocks, are the HAL shocks JDM sells (for the rear) the same as the ones you sell? How about the ones HAL/QA1 show for the 79=93 Mustang GT?

Geez, sorry Spike...called you Stan by mistake <ducking and grinning>. I was just ready to head out the door when I replied to your message and didn't pay enough attention to who it was that posted it...'torry bout dat!

That I don't know. But I do know that QA1 will custom valve them for you.as for the 79 to 93 stang you use those on the back of the lowered trucks. But you need to change the lower bushing and make it wider to use in the lightning axle.Stan

Hi Stan. That's interesting--thanks for that info on those 79-93 Mustang shocks. Where would one get those wider bushings? Do we just push them out of the existing shocks? The reason I ask is RaceSearch.com & Jegs have the rear shocks for $140.00 each.

I make them. When I sell the shocks they come installed in them.Plus the washers for the top need to be bigger and thicker for the rubber bushings.Stan

Hi Stan. Ok, that explains and justifies it very well. Thanks for the info.
