I think I'm losing a lifter!

The last few times I hit the nitrous it knocks pretty loud after I shut it down. I couldn't hear it during the run, only after I stopped and it was idling. Then after it runs for a bit, it quits doing it. The only thing I can figure is that one of my lifters is losing pressure and then it builds pressure back up. It hasn't ever done this except when I was on the bottle, twice. If you have any info please share. I have a new cam and lifters but, I thought I'd see if anyone has any ideas so if thats not it I can check for other things while I'm installing the cam.

I've got that too. I'm going crasy trying to figure out what it is. I have a blower, but it's probly the same sound you have. You can only hear it at idle and a bit above after I've accelerated full-about 3/4 throttle. It's not there when I start up the truck and drive around, only after I've gotten on it. I've had my valve covers off to try to figure out something, but to take them off I have to shut off the engine and take off the intake. Like I said the knocks not there unless I've just accelerated spiritfuly, so haveing to shut off the engine to take of the valve covers makes it dissapear. I've have not a clue what it is, I've got crane 1.7 pedistal mount RR's everything else in the valve train is stock.

A guy who has a olds had a connecting rod going out and it would dissapear and show up like that, but I don't really think thats what it is. I'm pretty sure it's coming from the valve train, on the passenger side more specificly. Beats me, but it's really not alowing me to take advantage of the warm weather. I don't really want to drive it with the knock and I can't seem to fix it.

I think its a lifter on mine, I guess I'll find out when I put the new cam in. If that fixes mine I 'll let you know but, yours could be something totally different, it sounds like we both have the same problem though.

Hey LightningWX, I don't want to scare you, but I have a tapping which sounds alot like yours. You can hear it when you start the truck on a cold startup, then it goes away at idle. Once you give it some throttle you can hear it tapping, like it would be a lifter or a loose rocker. Its also on the passenger side. I have been through the valvetrain 4-5 times, it is brand new by the way(rockers, pushrods, changed the lifters, even adjusted the valves while the truck was running, so I know it is definitely in the motor. Maybe a cracked ring or piston skirt, who really knows until you tear the motor down. Hopefully, yours is just a lifter, but just be prepared to live with a tap or do a rebuild.

Ain't skeerd. I once saw a bumper sticker that said **** happens. Well it does, and it would be the perfect reason to put in forged internals and feel safe turning up the boost, alot. I hope it's something simple, but I wouldn't mind some forged internals.

Wasn't that Forest Gump that came up with that saying :D

According to the movie. It just popped into my mind and fits the situation. I wonder who really came up with that saying.
