I hit 182,000 miles tonight ... then she broke down :(

Went out to eat with the missus for Valentine's. Saved up and went out to Chili's. On the way back home, I had just noticed that I rolled over to 182,000 miles (weee). Got home 5 miles later, backed into a parking spot, and got out.. to hear a slow leak and ticking noise from the engine. Sure enough, there's two trails of fluid leading from the middle of the parking lot (from where I started backing) to underneath the truck. The trails are about 6" from each other, one is about 4" wide, the other about 2" wide, and now there's a huge puddle underneath the rear of the engine. :(
Well, with 182,000 now, I'm thinking the freeze plugs have finally decided to kick the bucket. I knew they had a small leak before hand (but not large enough to see it dripping). The ticking noise makes me think that it's dripping from somewhere, and hitting the exhaust, or a hot component, so I'm hoping not a blown head gasket :m

Oh my gosh Brian, that sucks dude....

But hey they made it this long, change em and see 364,000!!!!!

OK, thanks again to JJ on here. It was just a small coolant line running to the TB from the lower intake. No big deal, but a big scare for awhile.

I know, phew. I'm saving up now for a rebuild. But, the more I talk around about a rebuild, the more likely that it'll be lots of money, having every component replaces, crank turned, etc. So saving up more money or buy a swap motor :)

I'm waiting until my truck gets paid off(getting real close), then I'm taking out another loan and I'm wanting to build a good motor to handle alot of boost safely but, on the other hand I would like to build a notch and use my truck as a tow vehicle. Decisions, decsions, I don't know what I'll do, I guess I'll wait until the time comes and see if my financial status is any better.

Hey Brian,

For whatever it's worth, I'd already decided to go with the engine swap route and started saving for that day. I'm figgering that once the new engine is in, I can begin a slow motion rebuild of the original engine.

LONG TERM PLANS,
CL

You know, that's a good idea, CL. Get a newer engine, buy an engine stand, and put my old one in the back (cover it up with a tarp so apartment management doesnt see), then I can tear it down myself and put it back together. Hmmm, what would the wife say ...
