How to install rear drop shackles

How about someone put up step by step instructions for doing this. It will help others who would need this info in the future doing searches. Not that it would help me because I will be getting mine in a few days. (Yea, right);)

Hey RW, Get the truck jacked up on the frame so that the rear suspension will be hanging in the air. Then place a floor jack under the differential, jack it up slightly, so that its not hanging anymore. Loosen the shackle bolts on the bottom of each side (might have to play with the jack height to get the bolts to slide out easy. Easily let the jack down so that the spring will go below the shackle. Unbolt the top bolts, then pretty much put the new shackles in the reverse order. Should take about 35-40 mins with most of the time taking to get the truck jacked up:D

Thanks, I had thought it was something like that to get it done. What about torque specs? Would there be a preload (in the air) and postload (on the ground) specs?:tu:

R.W.,Once you put the bolts back thru the new hangers run them in close but don't tighten them up until you put the truck all the way down.
It is hard to get a regular foor jack to go high enough to unload the sepension.A air jack at the back of the truck works best.
You could take a little trip and come down here Next Saturday. We can knock it out in about 15 minutes.annd I can show off my new Paint:rolleyes:
Later ,Johnny

Johnny, thanks for the tip. I appreciate the offer of help but my brother is a mechanic and lives about a mile from me. I will get him to help me (or I'll be helping him) as he just bought a lift recently. I do want to see your new paint live and in person so I am hoping you can come on over to Northeast Dragway soon. Their opening day is March 16 and will run 3 Saturdays test and tune with a gamblers race before running a point system. Even then it will be a point race every other Saturday with test and tune the other Saturdays. He will do Friday night test and tunes when the weather gets warmer.
