How do I know if my rear end is going south?

I got my tranny rebuilt about 2 weeks ago, so I don't think that is the problem. What is happening is that when I am a stop and I press on the throttle to take off the truck seems to not want to go. When the rpms are at about 2200 the truck takes off and catches up to the speed it is supposed to be at 2200 rpm. Also, the throttle has a rubberband feel to it, kind of like when you leave the parking break on. Something just does not feel right. Any help or leads are greatly appreciated.

I'd take it back to the tranny shop. If the motor spins up and the tires aren't spinning than something in the tranny is slipping. Just tell them that something dosen't feel right & have someone ride with and show them what its doing. The only thing in the rear that can slip is the carrier and that results in a one wheel spin.

Hope you get it straightened out, let us know what you find out.

I'm gonna have to agree with him. If the problem was in your rear end, you would be hearing noises or clunking coming from it. Sounds to me like the converter is possibly slipping. Also....did you take your tranny to a reputable shop that REBUILT it, or some local guy that charged you only half the money to REPAIR the trans?

Well, if it's a factory Ford Track-Loc, it's going south. ;)

Kinda like the addage: Does your VW bus have a new engine or need a new enigine?
Is your Track-Loc rebuilt or does it need rebuilt?

I'm so funny...hehehehe

Thanks for all the replies. I drove the truck again today and I am convinced that it is the torque converter not locking back up when I stop or slow down. So, I decided to take it to the trans. shop after work a little while ago. The asswipe owner gave me the look of, "not you again." Anyway, they found it hard to believe that there was something wrong with it and refused to check it claiming that it was to late to have it checked out. They want me to take it by in the morning. The thing of it is that the trouble only occurs when it gets warm. What simple facts do I need to know about torque converters so that I don't walk in there blind folded.

Sounds a little funny about the shop not wanting to look at it!They should look at it anytime if they are the ones who worked on it.Did they replace the converter when they did the trans or just reuse the old one.Ask to see the old one if they say they replaced it.It does have enought fluid in it right??Hope it's nothing to bad!!

Sorry to hear that. I had the same problem with the guy that rebuilt my tranny. I had to take it back to him a few times. The tranny felt good for a few months, but not it's acting up again.

Sometimes when i'm in drive and put it in reverse, it will take a few seconds to kick in. So, I'm taking it back to the guy to check it. If it's nothing, then I'm just going to start saving for a Level 10 tranny:)

Hope you get this problem fixed or do what I did, and take the owner's car until he fixes the problem;)
