How did you get your lower pulley off?

I have the bracket on the torque converter bolted to tranny housing so it's locked.

the 14mm hex (1/2" drive) w/breaker bar is a very tight fit on my '01, not a lot of room with the fan right there.

Did you go from underneith, or from up top?

I tried up top, and had a hard time just getting the 14mm hex into the pulley (not a lot of space to work with) once I had it in, I tried to turn the pulley clockwise, nothing. tried several times, nothing, been at it for 2 hours total now, had to put everything back how it was since I gotta head to work soon, any tips??

The directions don't do much for me at this point, they all just say use lots of force to break loose the pulley and to turn it clockwise to get it off.

At least you are going the correct direction(clock wise) to remove it.

It would help to remove your fan and fan shroud although it is not necessary, but does make it easier.

If you can get to the pulley from the top then you need to use a 3 to 4 foot cheater bar. Be sure that you remove the 3 bolts on the cage first. You did remove the bolts on the cage?

Which pulley did you get?

Good luck :D

i did mine from the bottom...added a little length of pipe to the breaker bar for leverage, and kicked theshit outta it...worked!

with the 3 bolts off, will the cage spin as i turn the pulley?

ASP or PSP (look the same) 2# pulley (got it used, looks new)

I don't think you can get enough leverage from the top. I put my L on good jack stands, used the longest 1/2" breaker bar that Sears had, lay on the floor on my left side, placed shoes against the left tire, and yanked --trying to turn the bolt clockwise. Couldn't budge it--tried again and again--finally went and got a burly neighbor(Jim) and he was able to get it loose onn the 2nd. yank. Point is--don't give up--it will come loose--believe me.

Don't remember whether the cage turns but don't think it does--pretty sure it doesn't.

Does it matter if the 1) Bolt & 2 Nuts on the cage were off or not if I was just trying to break it loose??

I'll give it another try tonight after work, and try from underneith as well this time.

I also broke a 1/2" breaker bar trying to get my pulley loose. For anyone out there that has met me, they wouldn't believe it, I'm sure!...but I really did.

Anyway, anyone attempting this on a '99 or '00...The three bolts that hold the pulley shaft adapter to the harmonic balancer can be removed with the pulley in place, using a deep-offset box end wrench, (13mm or 1/2" will work). It is ALOT easier than trying to break the big nut loose.

Just my .02.

Jake...

1/2" all-metal (no rubber grip handles) breaker bar and a small/medium sledgehammer. Went in from the bottom and "shocked" the pulley loose (hit the breaker bar with the hammer). A few good hits and the pulley broke loose. Good luck!

we can close this topic, got it done real quick when I went from the bottom, not sure what bolts have locktite on them from factory, must be the crank pulley cover thats on '99/'00s?
