Hey Raymond. I got to the track last night and heres what happened.
First pass: 1.90/13.52/100.36
second pass;
pulled out 2psi fuel pressure.
1.89/13.44/100.64

I was going to set my timing back to run N2O on this pass and found the timing was ALREADY AT 12*!! No wonder it didnt run quicker!! I set it at 16* and made one more 'motor" pass.It certainly made more low end torque and spun about 20 feet out.
1.96/13.50/100.68
I think we need to study the fuel/spark mapping a little more to regain my top end of 101.55.

I then wanted a N2O pass to see how it ran on the bottle. Why did I think it would hook on the bottle when it didnt on the motor?? Anyways, talk about a smokey launch!
2.406/13.76/106 Thats crazy!! I HAVE to get some traction bars!

Lets get together and see what we can do to regain my top end power. It doesnt feel slow, but it just doesnt feel the same in high gear. Any ideas??

Yeah, I bet it lost some top end since I richened it up like we talked about, so we need to put the stock numbers back in since it seems like it doesn't want any more fuel. Maybe even take some out. Also we need to figure out the best lockup points for the converter. How did the 83mph point feel ?

Jeff, we left the timing tables alone, he's just adding 6 to the base at the dist. Depending on air temp and everything he's probably around 29-30 total. I think there's more to be had with leaning it out a bit on the top end.

Rod,

Post your timing curve for your highest load setting...

Later!
Jeff

Raymond, do you already have a timing curve mapped out with 32* as the full advance? If so lets try to take 2% fuel out where we richened it and try your 32* advanced timing setting.
The lock-up must have worked OK as the engine didnt bog on the 2-3 shift. It even shifted good on the bottle! I was surprised.
If we can get together this evening, Ill get the c3p1 out and ready to download.
Ill can take care of the traction issue, and then we might go racing Friday night! Thanks.

Rod, I will be getting with you soon ! I'll get a file worked up and give you the details. I'll try to give you a call tomorrow evening.

The gift is in the stocking.. I repeat, The gift is in the stocking...
LOL Hey Raymond, I got the new programs you sent me. Im going to start with the most radical setup. The leanest, most timing, hardest shifting SOB you have on there! :D I have to work 10 hours tomorrow so I cant make the track tonight, but I am loading the program in a little while.
I cant tell you how much I appreciate your help with this Tuner. Im pretty sure I have at least 2 tuners sold already, for you. Its your loyalty and customer service that makes it so nice. Thank you for all your time and the sharing of your knowledge. "EEClectrified HotRod" :D

Roger that, the Eagle has landed :)

He he you don't mess around, let me know how it does !

You're welcome and thank you Rod for the kind words, I appreciate it !

Hey Raymond! I got the .4 setting loaded and it runs REALLY good. I hear no detonation and it pulls hard all the way to the shift point. I still have the Drag Radials on and it shifts real quick.
I have both shift points at 5300. On the 1-2 shift it blinks the 5400 shift light, but on the 2-3 shift it doesnt blink. Is it supposed to be like that? I will reinstall the 5200 chip for the shift light and make sure both shifts are above 5200. It is probably just the acceleration rate of the engine in first gear that causes a slightly slower shift. Sound right?

I am considering installing the 24# injectors soon. Can we still use the info we have learned thus far and apply it to the larger injectors?

One last thing. How can this engine be putting out near 340RWHP and not need bigger injectors? It needs leaned out in the higher RPM range now. I guess I really dont need the bigger injectors then, right?

Rod you're exactly right on the shift points.

No prob on the injectors, it's just a few clicks away :)

I don't know what your WOT fuel pressure is, but that greatly infuences how much HP an injector can support. More FP against the injector is like having a larger injector. If you can run enough fuel pressure at WOT, but not affect idle then you are probably OK especially since you are N/A. With the bottle I'd probably go with 24's.

Well Dang!!

Hey Raymond. I just got back from the track with mixed results. Its become apperant that my truck is just overpowering the Drag Radials at this point. Even rolling on teh throttle only netted a 1.94 60ft time. That pass was only a 13.54 @ 100.39. That was my good "on the motor" pass. We'll leave it at that...
The first two passes I lost to 2 different Gen2s, both with mods and slicks, or sticky tires.
I told them I can only take so much of that sh!t. The gloves came off and, I twisted the distributor back to 4*. Thats 6* back from 10* so I figured it would be OK.
Weeeellll,, I managed a killer 2.12 60ft time. My 1/8 MPH was the most impressive at a very nice 87.22, and I finished with a 12.96 @ 106.83.....

Here are my thoughts:
I think the truck likes it better with a 5200rpm shift. It seems to fall off a little after the shift light comes on. And second, When the Ranchos are on in a couple of weeks, I can keep the throttle down the entire pass. I had to lift on EVERY pass tonight before the 60ft mark. That CANT help my MPH down track. Is it possible that this new timing in the midrange is producing SO much torque it just rips the tires off??? I want to give this tune a fair chance before we start changing things again.
After I left the track, I noticed a slight stumble in 3rd gear when I lug the engine a little. Then it seemed to have a muffled lean pop. I added 2-3 psi of fuel and it did get a little better. Tomorrow or Sunday I will change my plugs and see if thats the problem. Sorry for the long story, I just wanted to keep you up to date. Let me know what you think we should do next. Thanks again Raymond.

Hmmmmm, yeah traction is a problem :)

What file did you have loaded ?

I think we need to find what lockup points the truck likes, that could be hurting. And like you said the shift points might be too high.

Man is there anyway you could borrow a laptop ? Then you could dial that bad boy in right at the track.

Could you post all the info on your best time (60ft 1/8 etc) ?

I want to see where it's laying down, but I'm pretty sure it's on the top end.

Hey Raymond. I had the same lean mean file loaded. Here's the best on the motor.
1.94 60'
5.642 330'
8.658 1/8
80.74 mph
11.298 1000'
13.54 1/4
100.39 mph

It still seems the lockup is almost immediate after the 2-3 shift. Try moving it up another 5mph. The shift points should be at 5200, too. I dont expect it to run 105 like those Gen2s did last night, but it will go 101.55. We just need to find that same tune again.

OK how about the whole enchilada when it went the 13.27@101.55

Let's see if this subliminal stuff works :)

One Enchilada Supreme.. Thank you, Please drive through!!!

Here is my prize timeslip for ET..
1.85 60ft
5.448 330'
8.44 1/8
81.77 mph
11.050 1000'
13.275 1/4
100.97 mph

and MPH....
1.914
5.542 330'
8.54 1/8
81.47 mph
11.16 1000'
13.376 1/4
101.55 mph

Its just not pulling quite as hard as before. If your buddies with Chris Johnson, find out what he had in Ed's (Struckby) chip. It was mean!

Also, Im about to buy a set of Hoosier Quick Time Pros. Do you think it would benefit the top end, by keeping the engine in the rev range by going to a 29" tire instead of another 28". Just a thought. It would also help with the nitrous passes.

OK time to get serious :)

I'd go with a taller tire, I don't think you need any more low end :)

He he John I have a bunch 'O Hotrod files, and I am gonna call ya :)

Rod I am sending you 2 files 7 and 8 so you have mail !

Here's 7

stock lockups
stock wot fuel
Changed trans_wot_shift_12 from 5200.00 to 5000
Changed trans_wot_shift_23 from 5300.00 to 5100
Changed trans_wot_shift_34 from 5500.00 to 5200
less wot spark (32)
more low end spark

Now since you like just going for it here's 8

same as 7 but more spark and a faster spark advance rate vs rpm It has a few degrees more midrange spark than 7 and has 35 degrees ramping to 36 ~5000 rpm and a bit firmer shifts for the slicks.

I wanted to experiment on the WOT spark and leave fuel alone for right now, I really think the converter lockups hurt your MPH and the 60' hurt your time, but this will help us to see what direction to go with the spark.

Try 7 first and see how the big end feels. Then try 8 and listen for a ping 'cause it has hella spark and it will come up fast :D

Now its getting interesting!! I am going to buy the 29/14.50/15 Hoosiers on Monday and that with the Ranchos should dead hook this thing.
Ill get with you tomorrow evening and let you know how the 7 file works. Thanks Raymond.

Raymond,
It would be really cool if you told us what parameters you are changing specifically to make these changes.. Shift points and lockup points are one thing.. But the timing and fuel, and timing ramp up etc. I'd really like to know what specific tag your playin with...
