HOT ROD TV crap

Caught their latest show were they talked about a new Dodge truck that was hopped up by them. I thought, cool, maybe they threw a blower on it or did something like the Dodge SRT????whatever.

BUT NO!!!!:m They went high tech and put a hemi in it. Don't get me wrong a hemi is cool but be a little creative. Haven't we seen enough stuff from Dodge that this has been done too (Dakota show truck and that PT thing). They really went out of their way with the trans, a 727 torquethingy, a 3 speed. It also was only carbed.

The 600HP was nice though.

We need a car show that has some reality to it. Why can't they play with a 2001 L and bolt some stuff to it. At least a few people could relate to that.:tu:

That is Hot Rod Rag for you. They very seldom make a FoMoCo product look really good in their products. First line is GM, then Mopar, then maybe something about a Ford.
I use to get Muscle Car Review Mag, now Hot Rod has taken it over. O well that is money I can save for spending on my L. Use to get Super Ford, they got to where all that they did was Mustang. I understand why(advertisers), but I sure would like to get a mag with muscle in it. Of course Super Ford is now gone.
Maybe I am too old for them all...:D

How about a 514 stuffed in a 99 Lightning making 600+ HP without any adders, this is a picture I took this past weekend at FFW in Orlando. The second picture shows where his exhaust comes out, he left the side pipes on for looks. I asked him to start it and it sounded awesome, he has yet to run or dyno it (I asked) but said he would shortly.

I was actually thought about that truck when I started typing this post but when you think about it is a little different approach. The Lightning is already fast and this guy just took a different approach at making it quick and different. Dodge (Hot Rod) took the Luv pickup (remember the tubed, 350 late 70's chevy trucks) approach, just throw a massive engine in with no refinement to a stock pickup.

Adam:

Was that L from Jacksonville, Florida? I have a buddy there that told me about his Mustang shop having a red L in there with a big-block in it. Your pic makes me think of it.

Thanks Devin, glad you like it. Some post pointed me to http://www.thefastandthefurious.com/main.swf and I couldn't resist:D

Lightninrod,
I think it's the same truck your buddy knows. The guy drove to Orlando and I couldn't imagine him driving too far on a new setup like that. I asked him was his gas mileage was and he said around 13MPG, that means city driving must be around 9-10 MPG.

Really I don't see the difference between a big block Lightning and a big block Dodge.. You're taking something with ALOT of refinement, and putting ancient technology in it. That truck had to have a C6(3 speed)... So there's been alot of Hemi Dodges, well there's alot of Powerdyned L's, pulley'd L's... Magazines need sometime to put on the cover, an L with a pully on it doesn't do that.. Now a Hemi Powered streetable Dodge truck that will pull 11's WILL... Look at where MM&FF puts their Lightning project, in the back! It's all about making a buck. MM&FF, 5.0 ect, have a corner in the Mustang/Ford market, one that HotRod really can't contend with.

I quess my point is throw a twin turbo setup on a 4.7 or also stroke the 4.7 and mate a 5 speed automatic to it. People will be able to relate and maybe do some of the tricks to their trucks or get ideas going. Who in the hell is every going to throw an old hemi into a new Dodge. I doubt anything learned from that venture will carry over to something you can do to your new truck.
