help with throttle body

i was just wondering sence i've got my motor out and apart, when we put it back in can i just block off the hose from the radiator
to the throttle body, and the smaller one from the lower intake to the tb,as well.............................thanks steve

There are two parts to this mod. First you have to buy a gasket for the upper intake that has the EGR block-off in it. Then you can remove and plug the coolant hoses from the radiator and intake. Its simple and it helps keep the T/B area cooler. Hope this helps.

yes it does, thanks for the info........you dont have a part # for that gasket by chance do you????thanks again......steve

Instead of a buying a new gasket, it looks to me like you can just plug the holes in the radiator and intake. No coolant will be getting to the EGR spacer plate so those holes can just stay open.

Thats not entirely accurate.... The coolant does not heat the EGR, it COOLS it. The exhaust is very hot entering the EGR, so it you take the coolant lines off your going to make your TB VERY hot. You HAVE to get the block-off gasket to do this project. I dont know the part number.

thanks rod, that makes since when you put it like that,i;am going to be going to summit in the next day or so,so i guess i'll see what they have.............................thanks again steve

HotRod,

I am getting rid of the EGR and all of the other smog related items as well as the coolant lines. Do you think I would still need the gasket or just plug the holes?

Thanks,
Doug

I would still get the gasket. It blocks the hot exhaust gasses from the upper intake for a cooler upper. The gasket is only a few dollers so I would do it for sure.

Its been a while, but I think it came from Powered By Ford. You might also try to contact Fel-Pro.

man is this getting stupid  i talk to powered by ford today and they said they dont sell any thing like that, and he's sure fel-pro dont, the guy there said i would have to thred the hole inbetween the upper and lower and put a plug in there, that would be the only thing that would last in that kind of heat..
what do you think????thanks steve:confused:

Just pick up a pedelum (spelling , I know it's bad) spacer for a mustang GT-40 intake, either 3/8 or 1/2 inch thick which is up to you, that is for a non-egr setup. I don't think they make just a gasket for non-egr since those exhaust gases get very hot and would probably burn through it. Could be wrong, never needed one. Should cost you about $40 and helps keep the upper intake cool. :)

Just take a 3/4"npt counter-sink type pipe plug and screw it into the middle hole in your upper intake. If you take your time and back it out every partial turn or so, you can do it without a tap!

That's what I did and it worked fine!

gaskets

I beleive you want a gasket set for an early model 351windsor. Me personally took my old gasket set and cut out a gasket to cover the egr hole. Also used some tack gasket sealer around it to hold it in tight.

all right thanks for the replys,i think i'am going to try what 93 whitelightning said, after talking to powered by ford today i would be afraid just puting a gasket over the hole that the heat would burn thru it sometime.thanks again for all the help...steve
