Hey all

I know normally that smell is the tires on a L at WOT

But i noticed today I had windows down ( it was like 60+ her in Michigan today) and I was messing with a older vette and i noticed a rubber type smell after a WOT run

I have little over 300 miles on the new L and should not be jumping on it yet but its hard to hold back

any ideas Im thinking maybe a belt or a coating on something

the smell was a light rubber smell but not tires more like an elec. type rubber smell if it makes any sense

Any thoughts

Jamie

With the motor off reach down and wipe the inside of the Lower pulley cage . I bet your blower belt is causing the smell and leaving parts of itself on your cage...

My bet is that the truck finally got heated up a lot and you started burning off some of the leftover undercoat. The last 3 Fords I have had, have all done that for the first 500 miles or so.

i'll bet its because you havent hooked us up with the official NLOC faced submariner!

Check to make sure the belts are installed correctly on the pulleys. I've seen a couple where the belt was misinstalled from the factory.

If you live in a northern climate you will have a block heater installed in the engine...check to make sure the electrical cord isn't laying against your exhaust manifold.

Thanks

I would like to thank all that have responded

As soon as the damn snow melts here in MI i can look the L over real well

One nice day on tues and then all hell broke loose her in MI

it maybe awhile befroe the L goes for a ride

OH well the R/T will get driven but its just not the same

Hey Bulldog i have got a S/S sub here for you black dial just waiting for a nice email of the logo so i can have the dial screened

Watches

Depends on the screening

It is like having t shirts made the ifrst one is most $$$

depending on the detail and number of colors it starts at about $35 for a simple logo

I had the old chrysler pentastar put on 5 watches for retirement gifts cost me abut $25 each but they were one color stock logos ( the dial company had the logo ) did not have to make a screen

here is what im thinking

based on the logo i say on the shirts here it is going to have to be custom made then transfered to a smaller scale to fit a watch dial and it may not look great that small

but i have access to a computer engraver which can duplicate almost any scanned in pic and engrave it , so we can engrave the logo on the back to start then i can work on having the logo engraved on a blank watch dial instead of painting a logo on a dial

Jamie

Or if we can get enough requests i have have a screen made and order apecific watches with the logo dial but them we are talking approx $200+ for good swiss watches. Im talking good quality solid stainless steel watches not cheap japanese junk

smell

That burnt smell is oil. After a WOT blast, there is a very high vacuum in the intake, and it tends to suck oil up into it. Pull the rubber tube off your throttle body and you'll see the oil in there. I just replaced my throttle body, it had oil on the inside of it, the backs of the butterflys were caked brown with oil. This is normal for these trucks apparently. What you're smelling is that oil dripping on hot engine parts and burning. It isn't your belts, brakes, undercoating, anything like that.

If she blows up at 300 miles

I guess i get a new engine

thats what warranty is for

plus the little i wa on it should not hurt it and if it does our beloved L need to be built better

I have had several larger engine sport trucks over the last 7 years and i know about the break in period

and come on now how can i stay off it

what is a guy suppose to say/do ???
I cant beat up on you cuz its brand new

Screw that if i blow her up then ford can fix her or its gonna end up in UNCLE BILL's office piece by piece
