Going to purchase a stall conv/questions inside

Good morning to all!

Well the day has come where i think i sold my HD crossbones. The guy is coming down from Dallas to pick it up on Saturday. If all goes well, i will be buying a stall convertor FINALLY for my truck. I am super excited as i know this is going to drop my et significantly and im ready to now spray off the line!!! I cant wait.

Soooooo...

I am thinking of the circle D or maybe PI. Definetly the triple disc w/lock up...$1,150 i believe. As those of you all that know my truck, which stall speed do you guys recommend? I was thinking a 2800 but maybe 3000? Two weeks ago i hit the track and pulled off a 12.83 @ 104 mph and a 12.81 @ 105 mph in 100 degree heat! It had been 6 months since i last ran the truck so hitting those times on a 125 shot in hot weather really made me happy. This is spraying about 15-20 feet into the run. I am concerned that i will hit the speed governer at 110 mph with the addition of the stall. My plan is to port the heads and add a custom grind speed density cam in the future (within a years time frame). Nothing too crazy, just want to get another 40 rwhp. My end term goal is to be able to run an 11 seond pass on the least amount of nitrous possible on any given day assuming i hook. When it is time to rebuild the motor, it will be a forged 357. I do not want to add a roll cage.

I HOPE, i can go from my current 12.8 et to a 12.3 with the stall convertor. I dont think i can go any faster anyways until it is tuned due to the speed governer. The last time i had it dynoed (truck has not been altered since then) i made 388 rwhp and 550 rwtq. It was pretty rich so a tune will defintely help.

My questions are:

Which stall speed to you guys recommend?

Will the truck need to be tuned for the stall (lock-up)?

Circle D or PI?

All help is appreciated!
Joe

Joe ,

I'd give Chris a call at circle d and talk to him he can recommend what stall you need. You can also talk to pi and get the same service. Me I'd go with circle d I have one in my supercab lightning. My circle d is a 5 disk though as my truck will have a turbo on it.

I have a pi I'm going to have rebuilt for my 95 as I'm finally start into get it back together .

Thing to remember with the stall it will help lower you 60 ft which will lower your et It in a way essentially shortens the track. To pick up mph you'll need to make more horse power .

What ate your 60 ft now ? When I put a stall in my 95 I picked up 3 tenths in the 60 ft ( on nitrous ) which in turn netted me a half a second in et.

Thanks for the insight!

I run 1.8's in the 60 ft. I think i am going with circle d...it is a fellow Texas business and ive heard a lot of great things about the company. Im very excited to finally do this. As long as the deal on my bike goes through as planned, im good!

Sounds like a plan. I would lean towards Chris also. He's very helpful and knowledgeable. Plus he builds each converter himself.

I would think a converter would get you into the 1.6 60 ft with traction. So that will be a big improvement.

You're going to have to decide on how you want the converter set-up. Due to the fact that you're running N2O, it's either going to have to be designed to perform it's best (in the sweet spot) while spraying,.....OR running N/A.

Trying to get it ideal in both situations is almost impossible.

any suggestions? i figure i just want it to perform best at its fastest state which would be on nitrous.

i'd be super content with a 1.6 60 ft!

what do you guys think itll run with the addition of the stall?

If you decide to go P.I, give Ed Struckby a call. He's a P.I. Dealer now.

Chris at circle D is a great guy (nothing like talking to the owner).

Tell him your plan now and for the future and he might be able to set you up with something now that can be re-stalled later for the new combo.

I have a 258mm now , which I have really yet to test. But back when I had the stock shortblock with heads and cam, I had a regular 2800 circle d which I had bought from Madramper. I had been going high 1.7's low 8 60' with the stock converter and spray, bout a 125 shot. Putting in the 2800, got me in the bottom 1.6's at the track and felt like stock on the street. It will really help you out. I don't believe it was set up for anything in particular.

Thank you JIM :)
Both converters are great for our trucks.
Precision Industries converters in all Of The project trucks i have done but one.

Joe Pm me if you like And I'll be glad To Help you With a converter Custom made for your combo.
I used PI on my Nitrous And supercharged combo as well as my New Custom combo for fall 2014.
Spot on everytime :)

thank you everyone for chiming in...

i am so excited for this mod!!! There are a few gen 1's out here getting worked on for the track i am sure. I am a FORD guy to the bone...but i'd like to be the fastest gen 1 down here lmao

ive been wanting to do this mod for the longest time but forking out over 1k on one part wasnt going to happen even though i knew it would help the most. Having the Harley was like a savings account. By selling it, i am freeing up $900 a month cause the extra money i make on it, i am paying off whats left on the bike AND my wifes expedition. Naturally if i am getting rid of one toy, i have to spend a little something on the other! If everything goes as planned, i will be ordering early next week. I will keep you in mind too ED!

I have a PI through Struckby in my 96. Best 60ft was 1.98 na/1.78 with a 75 shot and now it's been 1.77 na/1.63 on the same baby shot. I have 150 jets now but yet to make a pass at the track yet. I have the triple disc btw.

Circle d. They are in Texas! Talk to chris. I highly recommend the 258mm. But he could tell u which series. I went 2b. It drives almost like stock

What heads. Cam do you run? Shift points ? Cam power band?

my truck came with edelbrock performers already installed...it has the stock cam...stock shift points

When i inquired on the stall i let them know that in the future i would add a custom grind speed density cam and port the heads. At most, i would spray a 150 shot. I told them it would be a street toy. I will never pull with it either.

I dont know what the difference is between 1A, 2B, etc

I'm a 2b. But can flat foot it to 3300 ish no problem. My buddy's truck wasn't as strong as mine. His was 2b also and 2600 ish was max foot brake. He had heads cam vortech. But stock bottom end
