Ok I went down to the ford dealer and they found me a fuel filter that had the same size lines as the fuel tank sender( I think it was from a mid 90's crown vic) then I cut the nipples of the fuel filter and screwed in a couple of bolts and brazed them up and snaped them into the fuel line. Now I can take my fuel line tool and pop them right out if needed

FWIW, i did it a bit differently, as per Struckby's help...
i cut the "y" out of the fuel lines entirely. then a trip to NAPA and acquired some rubber fuel line (must specify for an EFI vehicle) and 8 hose clamps. double clamp on either end and viola. tank can be put back in using the same method, if needed
