getting rid of smog stuff

Has anyone taken off all of the smog stuff, and anything not really necessary for the engine to run? I have the smog pump off and all of the tubes running from it. There is also a tube that connects the rear of the heads together. That is now gone. My question really has to do with the EGR valve and what looks like a solenoid and bracket with two relays on the rear of the throttle body. The solenoid and relays have a few vacuum lines going to them. I'd really like to get rid of them if they aren't needed. Also, is the EGR valve really necessary? If so, what exactly does it do. I have the factory shop manuals and they don't say anything about it, so I assume it may be in the Smog/Emissions shop manual which I don't have. Any help is appreciated. I have a 93 if that makes a difference.

Thanks,
Doug

Doug, Howdy Dammit!

What color is your L (i'm assuming black, haven't seen a white or red 93 around town)? As far as I know I'm the only red gen1 (95) in town now. There was a red 94 but I haven't seen him around for a while. I don't have any answers to your questions but I wouldn't mind meeting up some time to chew the fat. Let me know.

Howdy Nathan,

Actually, I own a street rod shop in Bryan, Classic Collision and Restoration. I am building a 1950 Ford truck street rod and am putting the whole drivetrain from a 93 L in it. I am hoping to start it for the first time this month sometime. I got the drivetrain from a 50,000 mile rollover truck.

I have seen a few L's around town. I passed a red one on 2818 going towards College Station around 4:00 this afternoon. There is also a high school coach in town that has a 14,000 mile 93 L. This truck is absolutely bone stock and looks like it just came off the assembly line. It is red also.

Come by sometime and check out the truck. Also, if you need any paint or body work, I can help you out there.

Doug

Wow, good to hear it. I would love to stop by sometime to check it out and talk. I'm only free tues & thurs around 4 so if you see a red L at that time it is more than likely me. As for the one you saw around 4-ish, couldn't have been me so I guess there are a couple more gen1s out there that I don't know of ... yet. ;) Thanks for the invite and good luck on your project!

Nathan

BTW, do you know of a mint, blue w/ white stripes down the middle late 70's mustang. I have seen it a couple of times (only during great weather tho) and it looks nice! Figure I'd ask. Thanks again.
