Man I love all Lightnings but it seems this has turned into a Gen 1 board. No Flame intended but do all the Gen 2 people think they have all this Drag Racing figured out? I wish I did! I go to the track every chance I get which is almost every week and I still could use any advise I can get. I have a Red Gen 2 that runs 12.60's and would love any help I could get to go faster. Come on guys lets talk.

You know I didnt even notice the lack of Gen2s until you mentioned it. Hmmmm, I wonder why?? Honestly, I havent had much tuning on a Gen2 yet, but some of the track procedures might be the same.
If your still running the F1s, Id say stay out of the water for sure. Do a light burnout, and SQUEEZE the throttle. I ran my N2O for the first time last week at the track and I had to figure out how to launch my Gen1 all over again.
Now I run Drag Radials but this is what my truck likes. Get the tires nice and hot, stage immediately, stall up to 1500 and stay focused to squeeze the pedal down. The N2O is activated at WOT so I went full throttle about 1 truck length off the line. This resulted in 1.75 60fts back to back. I didnt get another good run in to try to up the rpm or floor it off the line. 1.75s arent bad though. I coasted the last 200+ feet when I ran out of 3rd gear. I went 12.67 at a whopping 102... I can see it going 12.20s at 110ish.
But anyways, try that, if your not already, and also try to lighten up the truck a little. Good luck.

Well im pretty much finished with my motor mods for a while,so its time to do some traction control!
I have only been to the track a few times but i know i can launch better with some MT/ETs and maybe some form of traction bars?

I have a bassani catback that i have heard is a problem for the caltracs?

I have a jones for those jdm bars does anyone have em on their truck?

I have my two best time slips from lsrp-
1
reaction-0.8017
60ft-----2.0398
330ft----5.6776
1/8et----8.6803
1/8mph---82.38
2
reaction-1.0643
60ft-----1.9984
330ft----5.5657
1/8et----8.5230
1/8mph---83.50
Thats without the headers and throttle body.
I ran the truck bone stock at hrp to the tune of a whopping 14.20.
1st time ever at a tree, had a f&*^#%^ blast blew it up at the line and never recoverd.
My biggest problem is losing my focus at the line and not hooking it up properly.

) I notice the fast ones ALWAYS squeeze the throttle off the line. Theres that word again, SQUEEZE. The ones that jump on the gas just lite the tires up. Youll have to get the feel of it, but, thats the trick to a good ET in a Gen2. There is sooooo much low end torque, the tires are really pushed to their limit finding traction. Go out and find an industrial area around your place and after 5:00pm when everyone goes home, practice some 0-50mph launches. You really dont even have to go that fast. 30mph would do it. Get the feel of squeezing the gas and how the truck reacts. Stall from just above idle up to about 1300rpm, somewhere in there. Good luck.

Thanks for the info and don't take this wrong but I've got the launch down. With M/T ET Streets have had a best 60' of 1.72. That's leaving at 2000 RPM's at WOT. I do have a stall conv so that helps. I've been doing this for awhile but I know there is always something more to learn. Such as tire pressure, RPM's at launch, mods etc. Am at the point that the little things are what is going to help.

Ok,lets talk!!! I have a 00 that has run 12.29 @ 109.49 mph.I still wanna go faster, and will do so.I know that your 60' time is good my 60' for my 12.29 was about 1.70.I have run 60' times under 1.70 but not many.I've run alot of times under 12.60 but in all honesty it boils down to how fast ya wanna go and what chances you want to take.I'm sure you have a chip, cold air intake etc,but am not sure because I don't know what mods you have.If you don't already have one you need a larger lower pulley,a 4lb one if possible.I was running a 2lb upper and 4lb lower but that's just a bit too much boost.Your truck probably had a bout 9 lbs of boost when you got it.The guage may tell you differently but they aren't accurate. If you can get an extra 4lbs of boost your looking at another 40 hp.I have been tild 10 hp for each lb of boost you add.Your gonna need traction bars if you don't already have them or your gonna break your diveshaft.

You may want to add an electric fan, what are you running for gears? Tire size 11'.5 wide?Theres alot I can tell you, give me a call, always glad to talk to a fellow Lightning owner....

I have to say this is Jerrys area more than mine. I love the Gen2s but havent had the opportunity to tinker with one. My buddies '01 is still stock, but with a K&N. If your running 1.70s, Id say your about 60 footed out. You need more horses now. Talk to JDM and see what he recommends you do next. Im sure he will guide you in the right direction.

A good set of traction bars will allways help. I have JDM's/Rancho bars on mine, they seem to help me.

I am still running stock tires and torque converter, but when the tracks open back up this spring(I am up north)I will have a torque converter and some slicks.

I am going to go with 15" rims and some 28" drag tires. Not sure if I am going with streets or drags.

Give us a full list of mods, that way we can suggest some other mods to improve your times.

Electric fan, and long tube headers will both help.
