Gear Drive?

Does anyone have one, or know much about them? Been thinking about buying a gear drive set, but wanted to hear some comments good/bad first to get my mind stirring. Thanks!:p

I've been considering it too!! People think I'm crazy but I love that sound. My friend who builds high horsepower engines swears against them though.

Like everything else there are good and bad things about them.

Good: They do seem to give you more accurate timing.
No chain to stretch or break.
You do sometimes get a cool sound from them.

Bad: Sometimes can be expensive.
Some of them require block modification.
All of them make too much noise to hear if anything wrong
is happening in the engine.

My personal opinion: The chain works reasonalbly well for me, so I'll keep it. Besides, I don't want to sound like I have a blower and get next to someone that will blow my doors off. Hope this helps you guys out.

Also they transfer unwanted valvetrain harmonics into the cam. I have heard they tend to be hard on valvesprings also. Sounds weird I know, but the chain doesn't transfer these minute vibrations, but the two/three gears do.

Go with either a double roller chain, or a belt drive

CURT - All My truck engines have had gear drives.... except that POS yellow thing I had MANY years ago.... Double Roller chain is probably the best of everything figuring cost into the equation. Belts are kinda expensive still. :)
