G-Tech ??

Has anybody compared RWHP figures from a G-Tech and a Chassis Dyno? I pulled 388 RWHP with a chip and filter kit. My 1/4 mile times were right on with track times that I ran earlier this year. Hopefully I'll hit the 400 mark with the #3 lower pulley. (Waiting for warmer temps before I install) I'll post numbers when I get them.

While the GTech is somewhat accurate for recording acceleration times, I trust it's horsepower ratings the least. Not because the device is flawed, but more because it's hard to use it properly. The horsepower figures are extremely sensitive to the weight you enter before making your run. If you just guess, you'll probably be off a couple hundred lbs and will artifically inflate measurements. You have to know exactly how much your L weighs (with fuel, you inside, subwoofers, etc.) otherwise the data is useless. If you're lucky enough to have a scale handy and know your weight, you still need to find a flat stretch of road, because that could affect your readings as well.

I take Gtech 1/4-mile times with a grain of salt, and realize they are usually accurate to within a tenth or two. But I don't think I would trust someone's quote that they made XXX hp with the GTech.

This brings up another point. I think the Gtech is a great tool. It may not be considered the best means for measuring absolute acceleration times, etc. But it's great for running back to back tests with new mods to benchmark performance increases. At the least, you can use it to optimize your launch technique, trying out different RPM drops and throttle feathering rates until you have good, repeatable runs.
