I have the front shocks off, but how do I get the rubber stoppers off my truck that fit over the top of the stock shocks. And the wheels are still on and want to keep them on so any remedy where I wouldn't have to take the wheel off would be great. And any other advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Or do I even need to take those stock bushings off. I have some new bushings that came with the shocks, and I wouldn't think I need two sets of bushings on the shocks. So guys please help me what do I do????!?! Thanks
Yea, I can grab them and turn them w/ my hand. They're just the stock rubber bushings that came w/ the stock shocks. I want to take those off to put the new polyurethane ones on. I'll keep tryin' at it. Thanks.
Well, I finally got them out. Just sharpened up the old knife and went to hackin. Went pretty quickly. I decided to go w/ KYBs, and I must say that I'm really impressed! Especially at slow speeds! It feels real good.
Nathan, what is the part# for those shocks? Also, are these, or does anyone know if there are specific KYB's for the 1 1/2"-2" drop? Thanks for any replies!
I was just about to order some KYB's myself to replace the original shocks I have so Im glad you have yours on. Is the ride stiff? You said you're impressed at slow speeds...what about hwy speeds. Are they soft? I'm gonna wait till I hear from you before I order. Let me know when you get a chance. Later
Litl Sam, the part numbers are KG5440 and KG5441. I think you would be able to fit these shocks on your truck because we compressed the front shocks to the limit and it went pretty far. Plus I have a 1" by 1.5" drop and I haven't "bottomed out" yet, and I have to drive on some rough roads. I do think they make a shock that fits a 3" drop, but I'm not totally sure!
stang_460, I'll let you know after a couple more days of driving. They are still stiff and I think they will loosen up in a few. Plus I haven't really got to test them at highway speeds yet, but will be able to today.
here are my thoughts as of now: Very pleased! Small bumps and potholes are nothing now, Very little to no secondary bounce after big humps or dips, pretty good IMHO for a 5000lb truck! A word of advise tho, figure out a way to put the shocks on w/ out having to cut the strapping that holds the shock compressed! The back ones are fairly easy until you have to compress the shock back into place after it pops out of the axle mount! I had to cut the strap off the front ones just to be able to put them on so I don't think there is any other way. Just be sure to have strong friends around.
The ride is very nice at highway speeds! Truly rode like a car. I have rs9000s on my old truck at stock height and it dosent even comapre to these. I am very happy. I didn't think I would be this happy w/ shocks, but I am!
