flexplate, nosie and damage question

rusty_408

Rusty
408w internal balance running E4od, Circle D converter .... i might have rushed putting it together with the flexplate the shop suggested. shop suggested SCAT FP-302N-SFI flexplate and i didnt question it since the bolt pattern matched up.

When i put it in, i measured the TC gap at 3/16, so i just tightened it up. fast forward... I am getting a idle knock/rattle from the bell housing. pulled the trans back thinking converter bolts or flexplate bolts backed out. now looking at it closer, I must not have set the converter back all the way when i first measure the gap. Now I'm measuring like 7/16". So that would need like a 1/4" spacer that i did not have.

I read tonight that JW N93002 fits the E4OD better and doesnt need the spacers. Going to order that I guess. But it doesnt look like the TC pilot is going to reach the crank?

Ran it less than 50 miles like that. think i should pull the trans and have the pump checked? Any experience with how sensitive pump damage is with something like this?

anything else to check?

I'd ask Chris Garret what he thinks, about hurting the pump. But If it were me I'd have it checked out because that would be in the back of my mind bothering me forever. My black truck and red truck both needed spacers, but what you need to check besides the converter/flexplate gap is how far the converter is going in to the crank snout as you mentioned. Circle D told me nothing less than 0.125" converter snout engagement in to the crank pilot hole.

I’m not a customer of his as of today. I’m always reluctant to call shops like that for advice unless I have intention of spending money with them. But who knows maybe that’ll change shortly lol

Fair enough, and good on you for thinking that way!
