Finally back to the track for some decent times!

BLoG

Blown Red '93
On my first outing with the truck a year ago, it ran 15.7 @ 87. Disappointing to say the least. It had a bassani xpipe, underdrives and a k&n cone.

A few months later i added the powerdyne blower. It ran a 14.7 @ 93.

A few days later i fixed a mistake in the vacuum setup, and it ran a 14.4 @ 94.

about 5 months later, I've replaced the entire set of vacuum lines, dropped the step bumper and added a rollpan, and swapped a 2.7" pulley and smaller belt on the powerdyne. On my first launch, i had such ridiculous axle hop that i had to let off for a split second. The truck ran a 14.34 @ 98. My eyes bugged out at the mph, and i pulled around for another run. This time i eased off the line and then hammered it. It spun momentarily and then hooked. The result was a 13.6 @ 99. I didn't find out until the dude at the timeslip booth said "hey, you can't run anymore without a helmet" I looked at him curiously, then he grinned and said congrats.

My friends had 1 helmet between them and i would have had to wait an hour to get a chance to run with it, so i chugged on home. I know i have lots of room for improvement - i had a 2.1 60', and was hearing a bit of pinging around 4800rpm. Also, as i was goofing off on the way home, my friend said i was one-wheel-peeling out onto the interstate. I've noticed my truck doesn't really like turning either (the motor seems to sorta bog rather than swing the tail out). Any ideas on this?

Anyways, i have bassani headers ready to go on, and an adjustable fpr. I think i'm going to try to come up with a set of drag radials for next time.

hell yeah! nice times! I was stuck with a best of 14.01 @ 97 last year before I blew the rear end up. So now I'm just waiting to get back to the track for a shot at 13's. Right now all I've got is a BD11A and full bassani exhaust. That time was in full street trim (hard tonneau cover) on street tires (Goodyear Eagles). I'm also still running through that crappy stock airbox/powerdyne cheeseball ram air setup. Before my next run down the track I'll have a K&N on there, 1.7 roller rockers, a 7" crank pully, and HOPEFULLY a level ten valve body. If that doesn't put me into the 13s I'm going to burn my truck to the ground. :D j/k

I think a lot of my success tonight was because it was FREEZING outside. It had to be in the 40s at most, maybe in the 30s.

All my previous runs were in 90+ degree texas summer.

Also, i can't stress enough how important it is to make sure that blower belt is TIGHT.

Ben,
RCR has helmets that you can borrow if you don't mind the motocross look.
Congradulations on the run, now I am the slowest truck in the club. (14.016@97):(

damn i didn't realize they had helmets.

Mark it shouldn't be too tough to get into the 13s from where you are now. Do you have underdrive pulleys? If not maybe i could hook you up with my old ones pretty cheap.

Congrates on your new times man! I remember my first 13 second pass, I thought the world was going to come to and end!

I suggest you get a chip, and step it up a bunch through tunning! You ought to call JDM and see what they can't get lined out for you!

I'm debating on chip vs eec tuner, and i think the eec tuner will win.

I don't want to spend any more money on mods right now because i know there is still 2-3 tenths sitting there waiting for a decent launch. I think i'm going to try to shim up my snubbers to prevent axle hop, install headers, and borrow someone's slicks. Also, some 103 octane and a maybe a bit more timing at the track.

BLOG,
Congrats on the the 13.6. Looks like the pulley is working(best $40 you have ever spent)!;)
Don't let that thing hop on you or you will be going to the bank to buy driveline parts OK?
Like Zeus says you need to cure that 4800 ping. JMS did it for me first wack. They can turn off the enleanment and play with the timing among a lot of other things.
The EEC tuner is a great idea too, if you like the challenge of doing the computer bit yourself. Raymond has great customer service and always seems to be there for the computer tuning needy. Either way, it is time to get the tune right. Some head gaskets are blown without hearing any detonation at all. Try not to get greedy on the timing.

I'll let you know next time i'm out there abel. :) I want to get a 1.8 sec 60' and see if i can nail a 13 flat.

SWEET!!!

Nice Pass, BLoG! Now all of a sudden your on the road to 12s! Hook that baby up and you'll get some great ETs.
Id go to a motorcycle shop and get a $100 helmet. They are all you'll need.

Nice job :D Now get them headers installed for a little more power

Watch out for the wheel hop or your next mod will be a new drive shaft
