EEC Tuner?

What kind of powergains can one look for after buying one of these hot little toys? Does anyone have any input?...like an ET gain/ mph/ hp/torque? THX

The tuner is only as good as the user. It also depends on how many mods are done to the truck. Basically the tuner is a chip that you can adjust yourself, so if you have a good background in tuning, you could show big gains. If your not real good with computer tuning, like me, you can still play with it and have fun while picking up a few extra horses. Guys like GJLS have posted gains up to like 60horse with it. - Brian

I really like mine. Its not a set it and forget it deal like a chip, though. You will need some patience and many trips to the track (like thats a bad thing) to get it in peak form. Very good upgrade for any Gen1.

BUT!! Unlike a chip it'll allow you to grow, and if you don't like the way a chip works it's a week or two before you get it back after a reburn.. With an eec-tuner it's about 5-10 minutes if that..

I think you can get MUCH closer to an optimum tune with an Tuner rather than a chip also..Each truck has its own quirks and like/dislikes, and chip burners don't know all of them...You, however, and keep chipping away at the tune at the track.

The Tuner is great for someone who likes to tweek on there setup for the most. But there is a learning curve and alot of trial and error to find what works best for your setup.

Thx guys....i understand how it works...just wondering what the gains would be on a stock gen 1......max potential? Ya know...with tuning, went from 240 hp-250hp...etc. Im debating on the tuner or NOS. Your input will help me on my decision. THX again.

Uhh, I'm a BIG fan of the 'Tuner, but choosing between one or the other you'd certianly get more power from a shot of NOS than from the 'Tuner on a stock truck....

Here's your best scenario. If you got the Nitrous AND a 'Tuner to help tweak that thing you'd see the most power gains.... :tu:

Well the tuner isn't going to make more power than a nitrous kit but both of them together will let you get the most out of your setup....so if I had to pick between the 2 on a stock truck I'd go for the nitrous :D

Yeah NOS absolutely !!

On a stock truck it will take some work to get much extra HP out of it. You would probably notice more of a difference in track times than HP since the biggest gains are in the tranny. But I think you would be happier with the bottle :)

No one has actually answered the question! HAs any had a before and after DYNO with and without an EEC tuner? If so ..what were the numbers?????? LOL THX:D

That's because that question is kinda irrelevant. It's unanswerable because YOU are doing the tuning.

The EEC-Tuner doesn't do anything. You stick an EEC-Tuner in a stock computer and do nothing to it but raise the rev limit and remove the speed limiter and you'll get NO gains.

You stick the EEC-Tuner in a modified truck and start tweaking timing and fuel (ignoring shift points, converter lockup, line pressure, etc at the moment) and you'll get gains that are consistent with your ability to dial in the truck.

If you want the absolute max horsepower and don't plan on ever changing anything then have a chip tuner dyno the truck, burn a chip, and forget about it. But if you like doing things yourself and plan on making changes then something like this might be for you. Like Jeff said simply installing a Tuner won't add any HP, hell it might not add any after tuning either it depends if you need tuning or not. The further from stock a vehicle is the greater the gains can be when tuning with either chips or other electronic devices.

You need to evaluate your plans for your truck.. Only after you do that can you make a wise decision on the tuner.. A tuner isn't a set and forget type of thing, usually.. It takes refinement of the data tables to really reach the final net gain. If you plan on sticking with a stock setup, I would forgo a chip OR a tuner... If you plan on a supercharger, turbo, or NOS(which it seems you will) and want to eek the most HP and ET out of your vehicle then a chip or tuner is probably a wise choice.. BUT you need to also evaluate your abiliity and knowledge to try to tune your truck.. If you have very little knowledge of where to go with your tune, get a chip and leave it to the professionals.. If you want to learn about YOUR truck, and what makes it run better than I highly recommend a tuner(which is the reason I have one, a quest for knowledge)

Just evaluate yourself, and your plans, that will answer your question whether or not to get a tuner..

OUCH!! Lay off, it's not my problem I'm trying to put down 1000HP on 195/90/R12 tires!! I'm spinning for the entire quarter mile!!

hehe..Haven't gotten the tuner on the truck yet(trucks 350 miles away from the tuner..DOH) I'll get some new times here with the slicks or new tires on the back.. I should hit the 14's without much problem with alittle tweaking and traction... If not I'm putting the damn Turbonetics thumper on there an aiming for 13's ;)

I don't know though.. I'll figure something out for traction...Last few times to the track there was NO track preparation, which leads to a big part of the slow times, along with the 11* of timing I was running( back when gas was $$$$)
