I know that some of the WashLo members are already aware of this - but wanted to make sure everyone knew about this upcoming event.

The Washington Chapter of F-150 World is having it's second annual Dyno Day at Turbo Technology in Tacoma. Details are posted at http://www.f150world.com/forums/topic.asp?id=36437

If you're interested - please post a message there so we can add you to the list! There were 15 'L's last year (out of 25 trucks total). We're expecting more this year!

Hey i know this might be a stupid question but what does a dyno do? I mean i know that you can find out how much horse power and torque your truck has but do these people that do the dyno help you tune it better or is it just to find out your horse power and torque.

It will measure how much torque and horsepower your truck puts out.

You can do a baseline reading (before), make changes, add a new mod, tweak and then do another dyno run (after). Makes for a good comparison.

This is just a HP and torque test, no tuning. From the time you pull your truck onto the roller to the time you pull it off probably takes a little more than 5 minutes. You get 2 pulls to get an idea of how well your truck is running.

I suppose if you wanted to try a different chip or an air filter combo or something quick and easy to change, that would be OK.

It looks like this year there is going to be alot more trucks (and cars) giving it a try. If there is enough time I was thinking about trying some different chip settings just out of curiosity.

Just to sweeting the incentive - Flex-a-Lite will be joining us that day. I'll do a 'before' pull, install a Flex-a-Lite dual 15" fan setup and then pull again.

But the real sweet part is that Flex-a-Lite will be giving one lucky owner of a late-model F-Series (Lightning, F-150, F-250LD, Expy) a complete Dual-Fan setup - *FREE*!

If you haven't yet signed up - please visit http://www.f150world.com/forums/topic.asp?id=36437 and post that you're coming along!

...see you there!

Don't know for sure if I'm going to make it. I'm working that day.
Anyway, I might have to get up to turbo tech next week and get a wide band readout for air fuel mixture. New heads are giving me more horsepower and the fuel pressure has dropped about 12psi. So I need to shoot for a air fuel no leaner than 12.5 to 1.I can see me getting a reburn!

One last call for Dyno Day at Turbo Tech on Saturday at 10AM.
It was a blast last year. Even if you don't want to get on the rollers come on out and shoot the bull.
You comming ROD?

Steve,I dynoed mine on Tuesday. It made 225hp and 305 torque.
He didnt give me all the print outs, so I will have to stop by there and get them. The rpm on the graph I have does not seem right .
I might up the timing and try it again on Saturday but there are a lot of trucks going to be there thats why I decided to go during the week.I am not happy with the torque numbers I thought it would be higher.See you Sat.

I will be at the dyno session, but my truck isn't going to make it.

Last night at about 9:30 I decided to try another computer program and it wasn't the right thing to do. It appears I drove over at least 2 maybe 3 connecting rods. The damage was catostophic, I felt chunks of block and con rod raining out from under the truck. The truck ran fine on the program I was using and I should have stayed with it.

Dale :(

Sorry to hear that Dale, i hope that you cna get that fixed soon, so that you can make it to Bremerton on the 30th of March.

Dale, I read this last night and could not respond, makes me sick to my stomach to hear this. What do you think went wrong?
Too much power for those to hang on?
I guess by Saturday you will have a plan of attack huh? I'll talk to you later on it but hopefully it won't flatten you(your wallet) too bad.

Sorry to hear this,
Steve

Its like my neighbor said, I was headed in this direction anyway, the only difference is that instead of saving the short block that is in there now, I can just throw it away LOL.

What happened is the same thing that is happening all across the country. The rods can only take so much and then they brake like a piece of glass. The rods are made from pressed powdered metal and are very brittle.

Yes I have a plan of attack but it is going to take awhile, I just emptied my slush fund same as you. I bought about $4000.00 worth of chrome SVT wheels and F1,s some Nitto drag radials and some Goodyear Eagle radial drag slicks.

I got plenty of tires but no motor :D

Steve,I brought my fairlane. It has a 351 Cleveland in it and it made 360hp at 6,700 rpm and torque was 307 at 5,300.New valve springs, a better exhaust system and some tuning and it can see 400 rwhp easy.If I freshen it up and the cam is degreed properly 500 + rwhp is possible.

Steve,
saw you guys there in the BIG truck...

I pulled a 351 rwhp and 436 rwtq, not too bad, eh
we're not '"dyno virgins" anymore:rolleyes:

only mods are: K & N panel air filter, 2# lower and chip......JR

I pulled 203.5 hp @ 4,000 rpm and 281.7 ft-lbs @ 3,200 rpm. That's with my slipping tranny and 130,000 miles. It's still got it. If you account for the 20% decrease for the auto tranny, that would be 192 hp and 288 ft-lbs according to factory specs. So I'm still right there. Oh yeah I have JBM headers and 14 degrees of timing. Other than that it is stock. Sounds right to me. Anyway's talk to you all later.
