drag tires

Hi,
I just bought a set of 16 inch aluminum 2001 F150 wheels. What drag tires will fit these wheels? I bought them specifically for drag racing so I won't burn up the expensive 18's. Summit has 16 in. BFG drag radials, 255/50R/16's..will these work?

The ONLY tire to buy is MT ET STREETS 26"X11.5X16. Every thing else (except the new Hoosier slick which I have not tried) is junk compared to these tires. Do not use tubes, and I don't recommend driving them on the street and damn sure don't drive them in the rain at over 10 mph. They will work great on the rims you bought. I used them on those same rims for over a year with no problems. Use 18-20 psi hot. Do one 10 second burnout when new and then let them set 24 hours. A normal burnout is five seconds after you see blue smoke. Watch in your left mirror. Burning them out more than that will peel the rubber off the tires. Launch between 1000-1200. Your gonna need some kind of traction bars or you will destroy the driveshaft and/or the pinion bering caused by the rear end turning up from torque at launch. Store flat. Rotate from left to right every 30 runs. Avg price 150 each.

Ok Flash, you're right. I edited my blanket statement to exclude the Hoosier. :D

the new 28" Hooziers are a drag slick and not a DOT tire like the MTETs. The class I run in the most requires a DOT tire. My off hand opinion is the bigger diameter tire would make me go slower as I get a gear reduction boost from the 26" tire that I will not get from the 28" tire. This is of course more true and maybe only true in the 1/8 mile, which is what I run, and may be not true or less true in the 1/4 mile because the bigger tire should provide a higher ET which would be more beneficial in a longer (1/4) run.

So this means, "No" you haven't compared them and don't really know first hand if they are in fact "junk" like previously stated. Just making sure. =)

I don't know when, but Hoosier is coming out with a DOT 28" tire. It should be out shortly.

At FFW I was speaking to the MT rep and the 28 X10.5 x 16's are in testing and will be available in 3-6 weeks! I will hold out for them.
