Dodge Ram SRT-10

Hey Steve, Dont worry bout mopar they will not make it for sure. I have been to many chicago car shows and dodge always says their gonna make something and they dont so even if they do make it. It will be a tame v-10 with little mods and the 6-speed no way.

p.s. already been talking about this on other forums.

BRING IT ON!! :D

I hope the Dodge and that new Chebby SS are both built. If we have no competition, its not alot of fun. Dont you think it would be great to embarrass a $45,000 trunk in an old Lightning? I cant wait.
Of the two trucks, I like the Chevy rendition a little better. The Dodge is just too jiggy for me.

Rod/Tom, I agree the proof will be in the showrooms (or not) in the fall. In one article a Dodge official is quoted as saying it will be priced competitively with the L. Truck showed on stage looks silly with the 24" wheels, but I assume they would go with the 18" ones in the video they played in the background.

Anyway, if I owned a Viper (you listening, Luke? :D) I would have to consider having one of these as a "sister vehicle"...if they make it.

I too have been chatting about this truck (in the Corral Lounge forum.)

Regards,
-Steve

I also saw this at the Detroit Auto Show and got to stick my head inside. I like the interior and most of the features on the truck (except the wheels and make). Dodge developed a new division called PVO which is like SVT and they are planning on building the truck. I believe it will have bigger than 18" rims, but I don't think they will be 24's. I really like the manual trans. They est. it to run a 12.9 @106, I think Ford will have some catching up to do on the performance end. - Brian

Hopefully the will only use 21" rims and tires that they have on Ram's now and not 24" tires those things will cost a load.

It won't be in showrooms this fall. If it dodge makes it, it will be at the end of 03 as an 04 model.

Not trying to flame, but where are you getting that? The announcer at the Detroit unveiling said this fall, shortly after the Viper.

Thanks,

I think ford should dust off the 427 sohc, i just saw an article about an uprated version of the motor with 658 hp at 7500 rpm, and 575 ft/lbs at 4200 rpm. Even the "standard" version would do, 616 hp at 7000 rpm and 515 lb/ft at 3800 rpm. The latter did with only a single 4 barrel holley that flowed 710 cfm, imagine that beast with efi. That would waste any hemi, or viper motor dodge could throw out.
BTW
either of these motors could be bought over the counter from your local ford dealer in the late 60's for $2,500. Also there was a 427 sohc motor as an option in the 64' galaxie 500

Obviously you are uninformed as to what type of Hp a Viper motor or Hemi can actually produce.

you must not remeber that this was the motor that NASCAR outlawed because it was too powerful for anything to keep up with. The numbers I quoted were for the "street" engines. Even the mighty race hemi couldn't keep up with it on the big tracks. The only way the teams would have been allowed to use it, is if it was run in a galaxie with a 500+ lb. weight penalty.

The Hemi Chryslers had dominated the 1964 Daytona Speed Weeks, but it was a very different picture when the 1965 event rolled around. The big Hemis had been outlawed and Chrysler was boycotting NASCAR racing.

Yes, they outlawed the big and dominating engine.

Agreed. But remember that 2500 buck figure was the price of a CAR back then. This is why you saw so few of these motors.

I have read almost every post about this on different sites. There are many articles in many publications. At least a couple of them have quoted the "late '03 production as an '04 model." The quotes about later this year are for the Viper and Neon SRT.

Anyway, I don't care. If it ever appears, any anything close to what is shown....... it will be terribly expensive. Anyone who wants to argue price has to remember that you can currently purchase a 2wd Ram that is fully loaded for close to what MSRP is on a Lightning. Thus, I doubt they are going to give away the Viper engine and trans for free. Sure would piss off Viper owners, IMO. Plus, the 6-speed car transmission would never hold up in a 5000lb truck (and certainly not for towing). Also, I think a 6-speed in a performance truck is silly. The throws would be too long to make it worth anything.

Anyway, this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. :)

Competition can only make the breed stronger.

I agree with Lightning Gal, as a former Ram owner I know how over priced and under powered those things are. I owned a Black 97' SLT 5.9litre 4X4 with all kinds of goodies and keept getting dusted by everything out there.
Just my .02
Later...

 Its startin to look good in the factory performance market..Bout time dodge get off their arses and make sometin. This Ram is gonna be one bad murfur and will get its respect as all yu distinguished members here have earned...

We are a small breed right now..But yu can see the boom(or in my case Da Big Wave:D )commin..Its all good and the truck will probably be a 40 thou or so truck???I need to have one and will eat peanut butter and jelly for 2 years just to own this bad boy...I as some of yu(i think most of you) will open their arms to this bad puppy..I am lucky to be alive and in america to reap these fun pleasures(TOYZ)...Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Gloria, I have read many as well and keep seeing the '04 model in '03. However, at the Detroit show as they rolled it out on stage the announcer said it would be in showrooms shortly after the 2003 Viper which is coming in early Fall. There is a link to the video in my original psot.

Now Autoweek (Jan. 21 issue) is quoting this fall as well (p. 19.)

I hope they build it. Then Ford will have to respond!

-Steve

Actually Steve, I'm looking to add the upcoming s/c cobra, to go with the L. But, the new Dodge could be VERY interesting. Decisions, decisions.

Guess it depends on someones definition of "shortly."

Actually, if it is due this fall, you should be able to go to the dealer to find out when a deposit can be placed on one. If they have never heard of the truck (chances are real good), chances are they will not be available that "shortly." :)

JMHO

Luke, Not selling the Viper are you? I know a guy from an e-mail list I am on who has seen the 2003 "Terminator" Cobra. He answered yes/no questions via e-mail. So, I know it has a roots s/c 4.6L 4V engine, 6-speed tranny, and somewhere between 381 and 400 hp. If it responds as well to a chip and mass air as the L...ooh baby! BTW, got the Swanson 2-program chip and Pro-M 80mm in Carol's truck. Very nice!

Anyone have the actual HP figure for '03 Cobra?

-Steve
