December 2007 Gen 2 Truck Of The Month – Congratulations Mike (KCBOLT) Cosgrove ! (NLOC #1521)

This month the TOTM comes from Kansas. A 2001 model in black. Many say there is no more beautiful color than black draped on any vehicle. It would seem to be true, at least when it’s freshly polished and waxed ! Mike’s truck is a perfect example of the color black at it’s finest ! In addition to a mirror finish Mike’s attention to detail is exemplary as the pictures attest to. While perhaps not a drag strip terror Mike’s best to date is a 12.76, a full second better than Ford’s factory stock numbers and he’s doing it style !

1. What sparked your interest in the Ford Lightning?

My interest in Ford Lightnings began in high school when I saw the Gen 1 L’s. I have always driven Mustangs, but when I saw a Lightning I knew I wanted one.

Fast forward to 1999: I was in the Army, stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and I spotted a new Gen 2 Lightning. I told myself that I will have a Gen 2 Lightning one of these days. At the time, I was only making around $13,000 a year in the Army so there was no way I could afford one then. Five years later I bought my first Ford Lightning.

2. Do you have any interesting stories about previously owned vehicles, before becoming a Lightning owner ?

My first car was a 1967 Mustang convertible with a 289. I redid the paint, interior, new top and freshened up the motor. It was a great car and I loved it (I wish I still had it). Approximately six months after I was done fixing up the car, I was sitting at a red light and a young girl driving a Fiero rear-ended me going 40 mph. She hit me hard enough to knock me out of gear and made my seat into a recliner when I slammed back. She got out of her car and said she was trying to put her shoe back on. Later she asked me and the cop if we thought her motor was ok. Her motor was in the rear of her car ! My beloved stang was toast and her piece-of-crap Fiero only had a few scratches on it.

4. Do you have any interesting stories about your Lightning ?

One day I was driving the L with my wife and we were at a stoplight when she asked me "How do you do a burn-out?" So of course, I said, "Like this." Right as I started a nice burnout, I looked over and saw a cop coming down the road. I saw the cop and she saw me so I knew she was going to bust me. I went ahead and pulled over into a bank parking lot and she did a U turn and turned the lights on. Therefore, showing my wife how to do a burnout cost me around $300 bucks !

5. Tell us about yourself, your hobbies, business or work, sports, family, etc.

After I graduated from high school, I spent 3 years in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a ground pounder. After my tour in the Army, I got out and married my beautiful, wonderful, smart wife in 2002 and we had a baby boy, Cooper, in April 2006. I work at ScriptPro, a pharmacy automation company, as a Quality Assurance technician. My hobbies consist of restoring my 1964 Ford Falcon and keeping my Ford Lightning clean. I love Chiefs football, the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Brigade, and KU football and basketball.

6. How long have you been a user of the NLOC.net, when did you become an NLOC member, and why did you choose to become a member of NLOC ?

I have been a user of NLOC since April 2004 and became a member around the same time. I chose to become a member because it is nice to chat with people that have the same interests as I do.

7. What suggestions do you have to make the NLOC.net website easier to use and navigate?

None…it works great!

8. Why did you choose your board user name (screen name) ?

KC - because I live in the Kansas City Metropolitan area and BOLT - for obvious reasons.

9. What are your plans for future changes to your truck ?

I would like to port my blower, put headers on, and have a custom paint job.

10. Whom would you like to thank for help\donations\support for putting the truck together ?

I would like to thank Scott Dunn for putting most of the performance parts on for me and all of the guys & gals in the MKLO. They are a great group of people to be around. I would also like to think my Wife Diana for putting up with all of my addictions. She is a great Wife and Mother.

Congratulations to Mike Cosgrove and his 2001 Black Ford Lightning for Gen 2 Truck of the Month, December 2007 !

Good to hear that I'm not the only one who's gotten a ticket for this. My gf's Dad asked me to do a burnout, right as I got into it, a cop drove right by, flipped on the lights and a second squad car had to join the fun. Made for a great evening. Got mine for careless driving, I think it ended up being $258 after the judge dropped it 100 bucks.

Anyhow, Congrats on TOTM! Sweet looking truck!

Congrats man! Black is beautiful...........when cleaned! You have done a fine job with that truck, nice family too.
