I had a great time watching the Patriots win the Super Bowl last nite at a friend's house, got home about 10:30 and went to bed, got up to go to work, and found an empty spot in my driveway where my 01' Lightning was...........Some Bastard stole my Truck last nite.........Damn this sucks...I thought this truck was pretty much theft proof with the transponder in the key,,,I guess not !! Anyway if anyone hears of anyone selling any Lightning parts from Jacksonville, Fl. please E-mail me --KwikSix@mediaone.net,, Thanks, Tony

Sorry to hear that. At least he had good taste in L's. He took a white one. I think Ford needs to go back to the drawing board on their "anit-theft" systems.

It makes you wonder if this guy was just really good, or really stupid. I mean, how easy is it to hide a Lightning. Not like they're everywhere like a Civic or something. I wonder what he had in mind. How's the insurance going? Are you 100% reimbursed when it's all said and done? Any glass on the driveway or did this guy use a code catcher. He may have been right there when you got home.

I need a wheel. I scratched mine the other day...j/k

I hope they catch the rat bastards that took your truck!

I hear about those hack shops in florda. I watched them on 60 min. awhile back. They get those cars ripped apart and the parts sold fast. Watch E-Bay:eek: Good luck

Guess it's time to rent "Gone in Sixty Seconds" again.

Makes me wonder, if a chop shop has started on it do I want the cops to find it and than I have to drive a repaired L or do I want the money so I can buy a new one ( or a 03 Cobra?). But, on the other hand, maybe it's just a punk joy riding, but I wouldn't think it's that easy of a truck to steal.

Anyways, sorry to hear about your L.

Sorry to hear about your loss...

Whenever I buy a vehicle I always put Lojack on it. Even if your truck gets stolen you have a good chance of recovering it and also it increases the chances of finding the thieves. It costs around $600, but I think it's well worth it.

I have never had a vehicle stolen, but my girlfriend supposedly knows a professional car thief who can steal ANY vehicle. Nothing is safe. Did you see "Gone in 60 Seconds"?

Don't keep any valuables in the truck. Get a locking fuel door, locking wheel nuts, air bag locks, and any other passive security device you can find. Just lock everything up as much as you can. At least this will slow the thief down and buy you some time that the cops may need to find your vehicle.

Parking in well lit areas may also be a deterrent. In addition, you may consider getting a guard dog. Most people won't come close to a large guard dog.

When I was visiting my previous gf who lived in a bad neighborhood I always brought my .357 magnum revolver, paint gun, and a 1,000,000 candle power spotlight. Figured if someone will try to steal my truck and I hear it, I will call 911, then blind their a$$es with the spotlight while I mark them with my paint gun and if they try anything funny there's always the legendary stopping power of a nice .357 magnum bullet. :D

sorry about your loss. i live in a pretty safe neighborhood and still cant bring myself to leave the L parked outside. hope the cops catch the theif or your insurance pays up in full.

damn. that really stinks.

One of the only things in existence that is even close to a motorcycle thief - which has been scientifically proven to not even qualify as a life form. If you live in a bad 'hood, I wouldn't hold out much hope ; the PATS is enough to deter joy riders... OTOH, if you live in a good 'hood, check w/ the neighbors & ask if anyone around had any contractors, workers or the like come in & do work or estimates - report to the police as needed.

I have motion sensor floods illuminating the truck as needed when it's outside of the garage. I saw the comments about lojack - that's great. That is, IF the local PD's will participate...

If you want a truly effective method of theft deterrant, and you're not afraid of animals, and you're reasonably good with your hands, get yourself a young Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. They're very personable, don't take kindly to strangers and if their personal space is tread upon, the offender will be...discouraged from doing it twice. Whether you leave the snake on the seat or under it is up to you. They're quite happy to live on a diet of mice, hamsters, etc... Truck thieves too.

Unfortunate this happened, good luck getting some new wheels soon.

Careful guys, Lojack isn't all its cutout to be. Very few emergency vehicles with Lojack locator systems in them, and the average recovery time is about 4 hours here in Texas. Looked real deap into this system for my truck and was real disappointed. Check with some of your local police and see who has the ability to find your vehicle.
Some good old fashion shade tree work stops most thiefts. There are some many switches in my truck it would take you an hour to start her.

Thanks for the encouragement, haven't heard anything yet, the insurance co. has already set me up for the dissappointment, she has already elluded to the "BIG DEPRECIATION" as soon as I drive it off the lot, I checked Kelly Blue Book, they dont have any stats for an 01, so I checked for an 00 with 4000 miles on it, in Florida is worth about 34,900., it sounds like the truck is actually appreciating, but her response was that, thats why we dont use Kelly BB, they always are too high......no there was no glass or anything around the area the truck was, and there is a light post about 20 feet away. so I never really expected a problem, I also have a 87 Buick Grand National, I keep that in the garage, and with the theft deterrent system, I just didnt think I'ld have a problem.......anyway, thanks again.....already called about a True Blue 02'. unfortunalely they arent dealilng very much off the sticker because of the color and it stll being early in the year, does anyone have any ideas on any deals anywhere on the 02's, I paid 30,000. for my 01 tax in, but they said they couldnt give me the same deal .....thanks again,,Tony

Interesting Info...

Found this at http://www.ravelco.net/ravelco4.htm:

"GM's PASSlock II, FORD's SecuriLock, CHRYSLER’s SentryKey and TOYOTA’s Engine Immobilizer - These transponder based anti theft systems consist of a computer chip imbedded in the ignition key itself which emits a signal to the vehicle’s computer system in the steering column to identify the "real" ignition key and allow the vehicle to start. These systems are factory installed, on almost all the new GM, FORD, CHRYSLER and TOYOTA vehicles, at no charge. These systems keep honest people honest and are very easy to bypass. All a thief has to do is cut the black wire in the three wire ribbon cable located under the dash and measure the resistance between the black wire and the yellow starter wire with a volt meter. They then touch the two wires with the matching resistor and the vehicle will start. This sounds complicated, but only takes about 20 seconds to defeat . . . which is probably why the factory installs these systems free. These systems are not very effective and they are bypassed all the time. Recently, a national automotive magazine published information on how to bypass these systems. Some salespeople tell their customers that because of this factory installed system, they do not need any extra security for their vehicle, but this is NOT TRUE! "

Re: Interesting Info...

Above passive sytems do nothing to prevent your vehicle from being towed..

Good idea to have a audible alarm w/battery back up, wheel locks, spare lock, & a hood lock..

Makes it more difficult & slows them down..

Sad to say - I have met many people with different car brands that assumed they had a full alarm system form the factory.
They assumed the PANOC button on the factory remote means a alarm is installed form the factory. Many newer cars have a THEFT light or LED that flashes - this does NOT mean you have a audible alarm system - a consumer could get bit with this miss conception.

On my old Acura Legend I had the factory system disabled - no shock sensor to guard againt towing & a thief could kill the horn by pulling the fuse..

Sorry to hear about your loss..

That really sucks, I hope your insurance comes through for you. I never had any idea that the factory security system could be bypassed so easily. Good thing I put on a secondary alarm system w/starter kill.
