Coolant Leak

paul12

Thank You...Drive thru.
Anyone had any coolant leaks around the intake manifold, heads or other out of the ordinary places?

I had a leak a couple of months ago. Theres a little hose that runs from the egr valve to the back of the block that was leaking.
It was a pain to replace but it solved my problem.

My engine started smokeing right after I fixed my first head gasket. I poped the hood and my heart sank as I saw coolant everywere. I couldn't figure were it was comeing from so I hit the throttle alittle. Coolant spewed from the back of teh EGR spacer were the hose that returns coolant to the radiator connects. I unscrewed the clamp with a razor blade, cut the hose shorter and put it back on. I figure I tweaked it when I was dissasembling my engine for the head gasket.

Thanks for the reply's. I had my cooling system pressure tested on monday and it appears that there may be a couple of leaks either at the intake manifold or the head. These leaks will only show up when the motor is cold.

I just had to replace the lower intake gasket. It was leaking between the lower intake and the head on the right side behind the thermostat. What a pain in the wallet that was :m

Did you do the job yourself? this may be be where mine is leaking. There is also the possibility it is leaking at a head gasket. i have another appointment to pressurize the system on monday. What did it cost you to get it fixed? Thanks for the response!

When I first saw it leaking I thought it was from the back of my engine but the coolant was leaking down towards the back. When it was cold you could not tell it was leaking but once it warmed up it started to leak more. When I pressured tested it, it was obvious were it was comming from. The one valley on the intake, next to were it was leaking was full of coolant. I had a friend help do it and it took about a day to do, just because you have to remove all the hoses and lines on the intake. Parts were under a hundred dollars if I remember right but if someone else is doing it it is going to be some cash for the labor part. If while you are taking off the intake, its a great time to do other things like, rocker arms, valve covers, porting intake, and stuff like that. I had my lower intake sandblasted and clearcoated to match the upper intake while I had it off.

Thanks for the info. I would like to do it myself, but I am going to find out what it would cost to have the shop do it then decide.
