Cobra Kits?

I became an instant fan of Fords as soon as I saw the Lightning, I went to the dealer for an F-150 sport cause I liked the new body style, it reminded me of the nascar truck series , and I wanted a truck. I instantly fell in love with a silver lightning and bought it one hour later. I did'nt even know they made these trucks! One year later I'm a Ford speed addict and I now want to build a Cobra kit. Can someone out there give me some advice on which kit to buy? I've done alot of research but I need advice from people with experience on the subject.

This will probably get voted off but I had to go to the Ford experts!
(Imagine a Cobra kit powered by our supercharged tritons, at about 2500 pounds it would blow any Z06 off the road!)

a little help please.

Talking to the owner of a cobra rep, he said the best kit is the superformance kit. That is is Carrol doesn't put them out of buisiness. Hope to someday have one of my own.

Tigger,
Since I was a teenager I have been harassing this place in Gadsden Al.

These guys are super! Just take a look at there site.
In addition to there vast reputation for building Cobras they also host Cobrafest every year. People come from all over the US to attend this meeting with there Cobras.
They can set up the cars with any engine configuration you can imagine. They even have NASCAR engines.
Give them a call. Or just plan a visit to there facility. They will answer questions all day long. (Not to mention show you there personal collection.) NICE!
Maybe we will see a Lightning powered SVT Cobra soon!:D

Take a hard look at Factory Five. It's the one that impresses me. You can get them in kit form or have a local distributor put it together to your specs. Small block, Bigblock, solid rear axle, IRS, fiberglass body, carbon fiber body, fuel inj, carb'ed, you name it.

Check out the web site: http://www.factoryfive.com/

Want to sniff around a board with some cobra owners (all makes) to get some feedback?

Hope this helps. <Insert Std. Disclaimer here>

My Superformance Cobra will be delivered on Tuesday. If you want something that is solid and correct SPF is the ticket. I'm putting in a 514" 460 so it should scoot!

Cool!

Superformance isn't a kit, per se, as it is delivered as a complete roller minus engine and transmission. A buddy of mine is building a Shell Valley, that he bought used. He spent about a year researching several replicas and wanted a Superformance but could not afford one. I think they start at about $38k.

Check them out: www.superformance.com

They start at $36,500, then you have to add all the extras.
I paid $37,300 including trans.

i personally would choose factory five.. but i have not done a lot of research on this.. but i know that factory five is in car & driver and they have did several test and have been published in car & driver.. and i think factory five is one of the few who offer the daytona coupe also... just my 2¢

Factory Five is fine if you want to use a donar mustang for the suspension & drive train. They do make a spec racer that is pretty cool, but that cost's as much as Superformance.

You don't necessarily have to go with 'donor parts' to build one. There is a ton of aftermarket mustang stuff out there from places like Griggs, Steeda, etc.. The 79-93 Mustang GT has become the '55 Chevy' of the 90's with all the aftermarket support.

You do have the option of using a donor to keep costs down, and I for one like having more options available to me.

What's really neat is all the companies who make the different kits, so we have these choices available to us--or even be able to have this discussion for that matter. One person wants a show-n-cruise mobile, one wants an open track car, one wants to buy turnkey, another wants DIY to keep costs down and have more control over the build process etc...everyone has different tastes and desires, and the different vendors cater to those.

Here in my neck of the woods, I've been exposed to the FF's more than any other, and have gotten to know the local distributor fairly well. I work with a couple of guys who have purchased from him (one turnkey and one kit) and they have no complaints, so that's the way I personally will go when I'm ready to make the jump. Your mileage may vary, good luck on your choice!
