Cams

I've got all the hardware to convert to a roller cam(lifters, spider, link bars). I was looking through the Comp Cams catalog just a few minutes ago at Xtreme Energy 5.0 Roller cams and found this one:

208/216 dur@ .050
.533/.544 lift with 1.6's
112* Lobe Seperation
1300-5300RPM Operating Range

It's listed for a EFI application and says nothing about SD or MA..

With the relatively short duration would this cam be speed density?

How are our heads at .550 stock??

Hey Curt, so all you need for the conversion is the roller lifters, spider, and link bars and cam right? My main question is will the spider from a 5.0 stang work? As well as the lifters and link bars which I imagine would work?

Hey Curt, I thought you were going to go custom grind? I'm not sure, but I thought SD likes lobe separation closer to 114*.

Adam, all of the 5.0L stuff works perfect if you have an F4TE roller block. Well, all except the pushrods, of course... :)

What options are there with cams and SD...besides the 351 lightning cam I am always hearing about. I am parting everthing off my truck besides the roller cam setup and the canfield heads. I just converted back over to SD from mass air. I am trying to get money together for school. But I do have to buy a cam to run since my other cam won't work with out the mass air. Thanks Craig

P.S. I have a mass air conversion for sale...lets make a deal...LOL

Curt,

I think you're looking at too small of a lobe separation, and I also think that's way too much lift for the stock springs. On a stock cam the stock springs are getting rather floaty anywhere over 5200 RPMs. Throw in more duration and lift, plus the much more aggressive roller profile, and I think you need springs to stand up to that cam.

Raymond Raymond Raymond...I was gonna call Cam Motion, I was just looking through the catalog!!

Jeff,
I would certainly change the springs, no doubt about that. I always get new springs and such, I'm paranoid about floating valves and banging pistons.
