Cam bolt kit a must have with Herb's?

Has anybody put on the herbs washers without a cam bolt kit? Was the alignment fine? I think only the drivers side has the slotted hole right? so if they can align the passenger side why cant they align the other?... Ignorant so be tolerant...Thanks

I drove my 99 (daily) with washers sans cam bolt kit. Wise? Not at all but it tracked straight and wasn't squirrely in the corners. Tire wear wasn't noticeable either.

However, it is always a good idea to get your alignment checked/redone after wrenching on the suspension. This camper knows better from now on.

You are correct in that the driver's side has the exclusive to slot design

Cam bolts from NAPA are only $15/set. Buy both and forgetaboutit. :)

DL,

Obviously you dealer wasn't as anal as mine. I got them to look up the TSB on the clunk because they knew nothing about it. Once they confirmed there was a problem the parts were ordered. I already had Herb's washers in hand and showed them to the service writer. I was going to do like you mentioned and try to get them to install them in place of the toothed washer. He looked at them saying they should work great but since they weren't a Ford part that they would not install them. The only thing I could get them to do was center the bolt with the new toothed washer and then do an alignment. I told them at least that way if it moves in the future I could install Herb's washers and the alignment should be ok. Who knows if they lived up to that end of the bargain. Needless to say I took it to another dealership when it was time for the intercooler replacement.:m
