Calibrations for a Stock Truck

I'm starting to play around with the GUI..

I've got a few things I'm wondering about:

1: Can you use more TP settings for convertor lockup? Stock I'm only showing about 4 different TP counts for convertor lockup(100,176,1020) I'm looking to build a program for basically highway driving, and MAX MPG.. Any ideas?

I really need to get a GUI Pro, it would make it soooo much easier being able to cut and paste..

Also could you give me a good baseline setup for a stock truck?? Would I see any gains from playing with timing, or fuel delivery with a stockish truck?? Or is the stock calibration pretty much ideal??

Thanks,

Hey Turbo/Tuner Curt :)

On a totally stock truck the biggest gains to be had are probably in the tranny.

Yes for lockup you can make the TP settings more "granular". The main thing to keep in mind is to not change the highest (1020) and very lowest (0) number. You can change anything in-between just not the top and bottom.

Talk to me on the Pro version, through me it's 40.00 :tu:

Well I already have a Level 10 shift kit, so as far as Line Pressure I don't want to jack it up too much because the shift kit is already accomplishing that. I might almost want to lower it somewhat in some places and raise it in others. My 3-4 shift is pretty abrubt whereas a few other shifts aren't. Line pressure will make it shift harder, and quicker? How about shift points. Is it relatively safe to change them all to say, 4800RPM with a stock truck? Or should I leave them lower on the 2-3 shift, but slightly raised on the 1-2?

Spark and timing tables, should I mess with them any?

Ok..My tuner is on the way :) Once I scrape up alittle more money I'm gonna be givin ya a call Raymond for the GUI-Pro..You can load that on more than one computer right?? Cuz I need it on my computer at school, a laptop, and my new computer work station I'm setting up in the shop specifically for Tuner purposes(the shops becoming Y2K compliant!!)

Here's my fastest time slip so far:

60' 2.202
330' 6.243
1/8 9.608
MPH 72.75
1000 12.559
1/4 15.080
MPH 88.96

I think there's alot more in it with some tuning. The timing wasn't quite right. I'd like to be able to dial the timing back to 10* and change everything with the tuner. I also just don't want to scale the values up, I want to optimize the curve for 93 octane. And most people agree that race gas is a waste for a stock truck, so I wouldn't need a calibration for race gas..

Looking at some of my other time slips, the truck ran hard that time.. I know why too..Most of my runs that night were around 15.146, but these were all hot lapping the truck. I let the truck sit for about 10 minutes with the heater on engine off to cool it down. I still think it's laying down alittle on the top end of the track.

For comparison sake here's my second fastest time slip(and keep in mind the track sucked)

60' 2.198
330' 6.249
1/8 9.624
MPH 72.50
1000 12.581
1/4 15.107
MPH 88.75

I have yet to hit 89 MPH yet with the truck, which really bothers me, because I think I should be at 90 or above.. I'm going to do a leak down on the truck, and probably change valvesprings, as I think that might really help.. Any other ideas?? And what can we do with the tuner to try to boost that up??

Thanks for all your help,

*Raymond, this is the EEC-Tuner ghost...You really need to respond to this...You fans and young admirers(not sexually you sicko) need to tap into your gross knowledge to better they're own vehicle...Raymond...Oh Raymond....Poor young Curt is dying for answers*

BOO!!!

Man ya scared me so bad I choked on a pretzel, passed out, and hit my head on the table !!!

Now I have no more short term memory and I have forgotten how to read (I can still write and post though :))

What did you want er uh whatever your name was ?

YAY!! I got a response, although a commotose one..

Just suggestions on what to change to optimize the stock setup basically... I feel the track isn't MPH'ing as good as it could, and I was wondering how I could eek alittle more HP out of the stock setup before I spring for new hardware..

Hey, what PCM are you running? I have a (speed density) file that you might want to try. It is basically what I am running on my stock  truck for now until I can get the new stuff ;) installed. Might be worth trying. Lots of tranny changes, spark, rev and speed limits, etc. Let me know...

Later,

YAY!! Raymond used his 1000th post on me...I feel so priviledged!!

Thanks guys... Currently I don't have my truck on campus(which SUCKS BIG ONES!!) So it'll be awhile before I try it out...I just like tinkering with the GUI, that's why I'm askin..

Thanks guys

Hey Kevin or Raymond..

I tried looking at that .cal file, and I need the lhbl04e config file.. I only have the lhbl0,04,and 04a config files..

Thanks a ton raymond for sending all that stuff to me :)

No problem Curt :)

Check out the sticky post named "Getting started with the EEC-Tuner<--- Updated !!!"

There is a link named update GUI, you can download a file that contains the latest program updates and the latest .dat updates.

1020.00 24.00
176.00 24.00
176.00 37.00
100.00 29.00
0.00 29.00
0.00 29.00
0.00 29.00
0.00 29.00
0.00 29.00
0.00 29.00

That's my 3rd gear lock up..I'm just wondering a few things, and this is a pretty good example..

Why is the TP value of 176 repeated twice?? And also, it's at 29MPH, then 37MPH then at WOT its 24MPH??

This seems kinda messed up..

It's a hysteresis function, generally at WOT they wanted the converter to be locked to put all available power to the ground. But sometimes you can get better times from having it lock up later.

You can just copy the TP settings from the 2nd gear function if you want and then adjust your MPH to your liking.
