Blower Belt Probs With S Trim

AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! I HATE THIS DAMN THING!!! I am having one heck of a time with belts on my S trim. The alignment is off for some reason. Belt doesnt come off but it rides against the lip of the idler pulley and blower pulley and eats it self in half!!!. I have a 8 rib conversion. Also I have electric fans on the truck and have to tension the belt from the inside out as opposed to the standard way of tightening it from the rear. I have to do this because otherwise I get contact between the acc. belt and the water pump pulley bolts.....is this how other are doing this with electric fans/blowers? I had no problem when I had the Powerdyne on the truck but I have ate 3 belts so far with the S trim. PLEASE HELP!!! Send pics if you have them!!!.

i have a 10 rib setup and i have the tensioner in the same position. however im using asp tensioner pullys. they have sides on them to keep them from walking off the side of the pully. im also using one as a idler. i bolted it to one of the tensioner hold down bosses. i havent had any belt problems yet. is your bracket flexing and thats when you are losing the belt or is is chewing them up with normal round town driving?

Actually I have a brace for it, I need to post some pics of it. If anything the bracket that holds the idler pulley itself on is flexing. I have the lipped edges onb mine also. It just keeps rubbing against it until it cuts itself in 2. can you post a picture of the way you have yours done?

Okay, heres what I think is going on, but I'm not really sure! You said that you are running a 8 rib conversion and that you have to slide the belt forward against the tensioner other wise it will rub against the water pump bolts correct?? So I am assuming that you arn't using the Stock Vortech supplied water pump pully that contancts both belts? Are you using an underdrive water pump pully or the factor pully? Either way I can see the interferance you are facing!

I'm getting ready to install a Renegade crank pully on my truck, and getting rid of that big long water pump pully as well! But in order for the belt not to rub like it is for you, you can go to the hardware store and buy some button head allen drive bolts that won't stick out as far as the stock hex head bolts! If that sounds like your case senario you might try that!

just my 0.02 worth!

Thanks Lil, I'll have to see if I can round some up to try. ANYONE ELSE? I would appreciate any pics you all have that show how you have yourtensioners set up on a Vortech.

When I mounted the T trim belt alignment was way off. so I shimmed the mount and compressor til it was straight. you did say the alignment was off right?

cemeflybyu:

Shane's suggestion will help at least part of your problem. I use them, without the water pump divertor. So, the only things in contact with the blower belt is the blower pulley, tensioner and crank pulley. It's a lot simpler setup. I have some extra button-head bolts, and can send you a set if you send me your address. They're kinda hard to find - I had to special order mine. Let me know if you want them.

Hi CEMEFLYBYU I really don't know your name but I have a Question to ask. By the sound of it the 6.87 crank pully with the 2.75 blower pully you must have bought them from Vortech. Is your crank pully one peice with an accessory 4.75 underdrive
I have been throwing the Idea of a 8 rib 6.87 and a 2.95 pully pack around and I know that only gives 1100 rpm more. I have the stock 6 rib set-up now. Does your blower belt only run from blower to the crank or does the back side of the belt ride on the supplied Vortech waterpump pully?
I did buy a waterpump pully from a 93 cobra stang to elimate both belts running on the waterpump. I was under the impression that the idler pressed againts the back side of the 8 rib belt unlike the stock vortech set-up which uses a 70MM rib idler pully to tightn fron the inner to left outter. Now I know that Downs Ford sells a kit but it uses the vortech supplied waterpump pully and it is a 6.50 to 2.75 set-up. Please explain it seems something is rotton in Denmark!!
