Be honest about 1.7 roller rockers

To all you guys with the 1.7 roller rockers,do you really get any performance improvement by adding these to our lightnings? Is it worth the cost?I here conflicting thoughts on this.so be really honest about this,im thinking on a set.

You pick up about .030 thousandths lift with a 1.7 over the stock 1.6s.And you are reducing friction.I also dont understand why some peple are not seeing an improvement. If you got to the track and the traction is great and the air is good so you run a good time. You install the rocker arms and a few weeks later you go back to the track and the temp is higher track isnt prepped as well and your truck runs the same.Dont come on here and tell every one that they didnt help.Change one thing at a time.and then test it.If you picked up power you should see it in the mpr.

Yep Rod you have a point. If you gain 10hp that is less than a .1 second ET. It is hardly noticable, but could mean the difference of a win or not.
I like the Steeda adjustable roller shaft rockers. They feature an adjustable cup to adjust valve lash or lifter preload for us hydraulic cam users. 1.72 ratio and beafy shaft to keep the rocker arm deflection to a minimum. They are pricey though...$299

When I installed mine a little while ago I felt a definate improvement in acceleration at the top end..say 50-100mph. The truck just got there faster than it used to. The roller design helps with friction a lot..just look at the stock stamped rocker design and it is easy to see the improvment.

At the track the truck picked up a little Mph too but the conditions were very different from the last time I went to the track so I cannot say exactly what ET improvement there is.

I installed the Crane 1.7 rollers last year and went to the track with no other changes from the previous outing. The weather was better but I went from 9.64 to 9.38(1/8 mile).I think a lot of the improvement was due to the weather but I'm sure some of it was the rockers.

I cannot give you my views with the Lightning because I have not installed them on it yet. I did put a set on a 90 model Mustang I used to race. I picked up 0.30 in the 1/8 mile with the weather basically the same as the preveious week without them. I noticed a little changew in MPH, about 2 MPH. I will eventually put some on my Gen 1 because of the good luck I had with them before.

My personal opinion... buy a set and you'll be pleased.

Mr Gasket has some new shaft type rockers that look like the steedas. If you install higher ratio rockers I believe you should also replace the valve springs at the same time. This may be the problem with the people that see no improvement after they install the rockers. The springs are too weak.Steve, Are your heads finished yet.I cant wait to see how much horsepower you are going to pick up.

I saw a pretty good gain at the top end. It really smooths out the motor higher up. If you do put rockers on, do springs too, I used the trickflow set for small fords, they work really well, I can't think of the part number of hand, I can find it though. I also used the crane energizer 1.7 rockers
