WOW those were annoying to put in! Even with bolts with much smaller heads, it's really tough to get any sort of tool on them to tighten them.
The bassani headers are very nice pieces and feel very sturdy.
That last bolt on the passenger side is a doozy. We ended prying that bracket off with a broom handle, some rope, and a screwdriver. Three men vs one tiny piece of metal. Eventually it came off, and we proceded. The stock headers came out easily, and the bassanis went in with minimal coaxing.
Then came the disaster. While I tried to start that last passenger side bolt, I was messing with a socket, and OF COURSE it falls off. And of course
it fell INTO THE OPEN END OF THE XPIPE!!!!
Here was our brilliant idea on how to get it out. We needed a magnet, so i took a sledgehammer (literally) to an old polk audio 6.5" coax speaker. Then we tied it to some speaker wire. that didn't work because it just stuck to the inside of the xpipe. So we hook the wire onto a coat hanger, and use that to force it in, then pull it out. After about 15 minutes of fishing WE GOT THE SOCKET OUT! And as soon as i picked up the tool out of the xpipe, the magnet fell off and ALMOST right back in.
After that it was just about an hour of cursing and yelling until we had everything tightened up.
I fired the truck, and it backfired badly, i shut it down, checked nloc, someone said to fix my plug wires, i did (3 and 4 were swapped) and it ran great.
But the biggest change of all: THE SOUND!!!!! The truck sounds MUCH MUCH deeper now, and when the hammer is down it absolutely ROARS. My exhaust is the bassani headers, bassani catless xpipe, to 2 dynomax race bulleys exiting in front of the tire. I had my friend drive it around the block and floor it, and it is entirely too rowdy. :tu:
I couldn't be happier with the sound, and it feels smoother and feels like it pulls a bit harder up top. Overall a very nice upgrade over the pathetic stock headers. Thanks GJLS and everyone who provided great info!
