Autometer FP Sending Unit Leaking

Hey guys, just thought I'd mention that anyone who's using autometer Fuel Pressure gauge to check their sending unit and make sure its not leaking up where the studs are for the wires. Wouldn't want any fires, since the sender sits near the distributor. Both mine and (Dennis Macho) Huffentuff95's were leaking. Not sure if its a common problem, but Dennis told me about his, so I check mine and sure enough it was. He told me autometer told him that the the senders weren't designed for the fluctuations of fuel pressure that come with Blowers and FMUs.

Are you talking about the electrical fuel pressure senders?
BTW, what kind of BS excuse is that: that the senders are not designed for fluctuations in fuel pressure. If the needle is within the numbers on the guage than it better be up to the task or Autometer has a problem with design.

well that's just great. We pay all this money for an electric fp gauge and it doesn't handle FI applications? WHAT THE HELL?

Yeah, that friggen guage was pricey about $170 I think. I'll check mine tommorow. It better be OK or else I think you guys will hear a loud screem from the Northwest!

WTF??? Like the fittings on the shrader valve leak? Did you put teflon tape on em? Or there fitting on the bottom of the sender leaks. If there fitting thats mounted on the bottom of the sender can't hack forced induction applications 100,000s of people are gonna come over and stick there foot up autometers collective ***.

Hey LightningWX, its the studs on the top of the sender where the power and ground wire connect. Also fuel will eat up teflon tape in a hurry.

A while back my gauge started fluctuating unrealistically under hard throttle. I sent autometer a e-mail and they sent me a new wiring harness ( the plug had separated from the shielding ). That did not fix the problem, so I sent off another e-mail and they sent me a new sending unit ( smaller that the original, I think the original one was silver, and about 1.25 inches in diameter, and the new one is kind of brass color, and maybe and inch in diameter ). The new sending unit cleared up all of my problems. I even told the folks at autometer that it had been almost a year and a half since I bought it.. I did follow the rules for getting your way, you know tell them how great their product line is, and you have never had a problem in the past, but you are having just this one problem….. you know the drill….

Dogman, thanks for your post..
I checked mine under the hood and I have the big gold anodized one so just maybe I won't have a problem.

Let me tell you I have the gold looking sending unit. for about 3 weeks I kept smelling gas (RAW GAS) when I stop at lights, one day it was real bad:eek: I saw a stain down the side of the unit . then it got worse till I saw gas seeping from under the nuts, I tried to tighten the little knereled washer under the nut but the thing still leaked. I sent it out to autometer for replacement:tu:
