Anti Freeze dripping from bell housing

paul12

Thank You...Drive thru.
 Where could this be coming from. Is there anything on the back of the intake or motor that could leak anti freeze? Doesnt appear to be related to the EGR. Dont even mention freeze plugs. That would suck so bad. I have replaced all the hoses, thermostat, heater core and radiator. I am about to drive this truck off a cliff.

I know you said new hoses, does that include the coolant line from the radiator to the back of the EGR Spacer? If its not that it could be a freeze plug like you said or possibly even a head gasket.

I have checked everything I can get to with out taking something apart. I felt around behind the upper intake. I can see where the head and the block meet, and it doesnt appear to be a head gasket. I cant find anything wet up top. My fuel lines are a little wet with anti freeze and the transmission linkage close to the transmmission is a little wet. It seems to be mostly concentrated and leaking out of the bell housing. HELP!!!!!!!

Paul, check them freeze plugs!!!

You said fuel lines. Are you talking about the ones done near the frame or the ones by the fuel rails?

Try putting a drop lightn behind the intake and go under neith the truck and look up. This may help you to see a little better.

I did put the light on top of the motor and was able to see a small portion of the back of the motor. the fuel lines were a little wet with anti freeze down by the transmission and by the transmission linkage bracket. I cant tell if this is caused by it actually running down these hoses or from the fluid being blown around when driving. I could see the back of the block and the driver side head. It didnt appear to be leaking at the head gasket.

I felt around the back of the intake and cant find anything wet on top of the motor. I cant really be sure how much i am able to check though.

How do I check the freeze plugs? Do I have to slide the transmission back to see the back of the block?

anyone want to buy a truck?

leaking

Try looking on the passenger side lower intake. Just to the right of the water neck. Theres a gasket line there. See if its dripping down from there and running down the block to the center of the frame by the bell housing. Or the feed line to the egr spacer. Behind the upper intake by the fuel pressure regulator.

There is no evidence of any leakage around the water neck or the front of the motor. How would you check for leakage on the pass side of the intake? Do you have to pull the upper intake? Thanks for all the help everyone! Like I mentioned, I have never had the upper intake off. I dont know whats back there.

I assume if it was leaking toward the pass side of the intake, the fluid would run down in such a manner that it would be wet on that side of the motor when looking up from underneath. I am not finding evidence of anything on the pass side.

Sorry!

How bad of a leak is it? I'm not fond of doing what I'm about to tell you but, have you tried radiator stop leak? If you've never heard of this, it is for real, and yes it works.

Go to your autozone, napa, or whatever, tell them you're looing for radiator stop leak, and they'll point you in the right direction. The kind that I have found to work the best is in a clear bottle, and it has "pellets" in it, looks like hamster food or something. I believe that the brand is Barks or something like that. It really works, with no ill effect that I have ever noticed. Just follow the directions. Good luck!

I dont know if i can bring myself to pour that into my brand new radiator. This sux!

Have you tryed cleaning the motor and anyting else wet real good so you can tell.If not do the best you can to wipe up all the antifreeze and then run your truck just for a little bit.Don't drive it just let it run this way the wind dosent blow it every where!!If it dosent leak the first time let it run a little longer.I have had to do this with some trucks at work!Hope you find it!!

I did let the truck run in the garage and didnt notice any additional build up of anti freeze around the fuel lines. I have a bad suspicion that it is a freeze plug on the back of the block. Has anyone ever had to deal with this kind of problem? I am assuming that there are freeze plugs on the back of the block.

Find somebody with a pressure tester and pressurize the cooling system then crawl around and wipe everything down. This should find the leak, but sometimes they can be tough to locate.
