A VW Golf wants to race me

What do u think guys from what I have heard about the car its got headers intake and exhuast thats all I know except for the 70 shot of nos. The guys girlfriend claims that the car beat a 97 cobra off the juice. Anyone think Ill have any problems and a VW beating a cobra is BS I think. If I would have been driving the cobra I think the VW would have gotten smoked.:D

maybe you could find that cobra and tow it when you race him. that way you could spank him and the cobra you have trailing behind you could redeem itself.

That Cobra story is total BS. There's just no way (if the Cobra was real and not a V6 poser). You will have no problem, man. Show him your tailgate. The "intake" would be a K&N filter (maybe cold air induction set up). OOooooo, that probably gave an extra rice grain or two.

It should be a good race if it's a VR6. I raced three VR6 VW's with my old SE-R (best of 14.56 at the drag strip and consistently in the 14.7-14.8 range) and I was just *barely* faster than them -- two Golfs and a Jetta. One of them said all he had was a lightnened flywheel ('though I doubt it considering his chubby girlfriend was with him and I was by myself).

A VR6 With a 70-shot might be good for mid- to high-13s.

If it's a 4 cyl Golf ...

Whoooa there!! Make sure it is not a VR6 GTI first!! A VR6 with light mods and exhaust with a 70 shot of juice is gonna be a little rattle snake!! I raced a lightly modded 98 GTI VR6 with my Gen.1 and LOST!! VR6s are quick. The 2.0 4 banger is NOT!!!!!!! Even with a 100 shot I wouldn't worry!!!

make sure it's not a GTi

I've seen the GTi's the 4 cylinder turbo run mid 12's, the 4 cylinders are faster than the VR6's when the boost is turned up

What about a brand new GTI 1.8T? I was trying to get a decent go at one on the Turnpike this afternoon on my way back from work but traffic was too thick. Then traffic slowed to a crawl for a few miles because a PLANE landed on the Turnpike! Rubber-neckers!!! Oh well, I took a look also, what a weird thing to see on the road! Anyway, back to my story, he had 17" or 18" rims, lowered, and polished-looking muffler. That little thing was quick rolling in and out of traffic!
