A day at the Track

A day at the Track

I finely took my stock 95 to the track. So the three passes were my first three. Mind you, the truck is old and has 127000 miles on it. It's time for a new set of injectors and a basic tune up. But none the less, here is my best pass: .511 reaction, 2.197 60 foot, 15.118 qt mile at 89.53 mph. Oh yeah, it weighs in at 4700 pounds with me in it. ;)

4200 w/o you, ken??? hahahahahahaha j/k!!! sweet times on that thing for bone stock....wonder if with the full tune up you might get a 14.9 out of it....

Man I tried for 14's. The time's were consistant, 15.122, 15.118 and 15.120. My first 60 foot time was, to say the least BAD: 1.162. I got spanked by a lovely lady in a Z71 Tahoe. She clocked a .526 60 foot time. But the truck made up for my launch. I did ask her how she left so well, and she told me. So, I just did what she said. Next reaction was .623 and then the third at .511. Yes I spanked a 5.0. BIG.:)
There was a guy there with a new Cheby, and what ever v8 they have: He had a s-charger and 285-60 18 tires. One of his times was 15.20 at 95 mph. Then came the Nitrous, and there went the plugs and oil everywhere. I didn't look at the messy truck, but he was sweeting.:(
400 pounds... just my ego!

noyce!!! so a stock L1 and a stock CC R/T can run identical times!! rock on. did you know the lovely lady in the tahoe?? or can you send her my way....i'll show her how a new yorker does it...heehehehe

Naw, she was married. I checked her out, too. The ring on her finger say's her husband is a Delta Pilot!!!!!!

DELTA?!?!?!? well hell, baby, i'm AMERICAN and she can my these friendly skies ANYTIME!!!

Good times Ken. Thats very respectable for a non tuned up Lightning.
As far as the R/T CCs. I wish there were some that fast around here. Im sure yours went 15.1s, but they run more like a 16.1 down here. I raced a rc R/T and he had exhaust and drag radials and only ran a 15.2. I just dont get the huge difference in ETs. And we're at sea level.

I agree about the tune-up. you'd be amazed at what plugs, wires, cap, and rotor will do in a Gen 1 truck. There's also a couple of tenths in your 60' time. Turn the timing to 14 degrees and you should be able to get a 2.0 60' out of it.

And I've with Rod, I've never seen a CC truck run anywhere near that stock. Matter of fact, I've never seen a RC truck run that stock. And I've seen quite a few.

jeff, like i said. my CC R/T ran a 15.12 totally stock WITH a fiberglass tonneau cover and tailgate on. and that was on street tires. a few of us have done it.

Rodly and FMOS,

I ran a 14.94 with headers and exh and an air intake tube. That was it. And Im no small kid either :) With me in the truck its at 4500 lbs. That was with the stock tires and 2.06 60' times. Man.. that was a couple years ago!! HAHAHA We have a couple local guys who run consistant LOW 15's high 14's with very few mods. Depends more on the driver to be honest. Most of the kids driving RT's cant figure out how to launch em.
I cant explain the slow times with the drag radials... he prolly was using some 30" tall ones :)

I ran 14.7 w/ just header.air intake and ,hypertech module....There is clubcab here in hawaii that ran 15.19 stock......Mine ran 16's stock(99) the 15.19 was a 2000 Club cab....I would think it highly relies on driver, location etc:D

Ken:

Man, I was so glad to see all the Gen 1s at SDR--had to be the biggest gathering of Lightnings(1 & 2s) at a track(or anywhere) in the state of Georgia. I did speak to you, didn't I? Hope so but I met so many L owners, I know I missed some.

It was a wonderful day for everybody--well, Rusty wasn't too tickled;) --the ol' man 'took' him--for the first time.
