Help,

I bought a 01 shock kit, and now it is banging and clunking:(

I think that the problem is the top shock fasteners.

The installer used the old front shock nuts/plates to mount the rear shocks, and the adaptor plates (nuts w/rubber) to mount the front shocks:rolleyes:

Is this wrong...or why does the chassis clunk now...didn't before the change:mad:

What is wrong????:o

Thanks,

...Dwight... ;t

hmm.. tough one....
tell ya what, put the old ones back on, box up the new ones, and send them to me for extensive testing.. i wont charge you a dime.
i'll send them back when they are worn ou... uh, i'll send them back after testing them. :tu: ;) :D

but seriously.. maybe one of them is bad? did you check to see if everything was tight? any idea where the sound is coming from? ie: one corner, or all corners?
isn't there a new adapter for those shocks?

hope this helps...

There is a bigger hole in the 2001 on up shocks so if you didn't buy any parts from Ford that is your problem... The rear shocks take a larger bolt... Hope that helps...

Yup, the new rear shocks had a larger bolt, and there was 2 "adaptor nuts" with rubber bumpers included. The installer guy, put them on the new front shocks, and moved the old nut with flat plate to the rear shocks :(

My question is....does the flat plate and nut belong on the front....and the adapter nut with rubber bumper belong on the rear....did he screw up????????

Brooks, you are always looking for a way to one-up me...now shocks??? Have you got the short tube headers on yet?? :b

...Thanks for the help :m

...Dwight...;t

headers? i dont know what you are talking about! :D :D :D
i've been laid off for about a month now, and it's been too @%!%%^ cold to do anything to my truck. :(
it's finally gonna get up to 62 degrees, so i'm gonna brave the cold & try to put my traction bars on..

BigD,
That might be the problem as i have heard alot of people converting over to the 2001 + setup and just having to drill the rear for the bolt holes... I have never heard of moving the ones originally up front...

Clonetek,
We all feel for you with the weather... LMAO... We have been in the 10's for the last 2 or 3 days and have seen more snow this month than dec,jan & feb combined... :D

99-'01 shock swap

Bought the shocks at the dealer, all hardware (less the larger nut for the back shocks, D'OH!) was correct in each box. Besides breaking off one of the studs on the lower control arm, the swap went smoothly, and the grease on the stering stop took away the creak we had.. I'd go an grap each shock and see if there is any play, it sounds like they forgot a bushing somewhere..

Dwight,

Your problem is quite obvious...you didn't have Baby Jake install them for you!!! ;) :D Sorry I've been so busy lately. :(
