5K to spend

Okay, I know this has probably been asked here before, but here goes:

I will be getting an income tax return around 5K. What are the mods, (in order) that I need to make toget my 2000 L as deep into the 12's (or more?) as I can?

Since there is noway to search for it (I tried), here's a very short list... others may add, or subtract from it as opinions, and taste vary.


-Chip, Filter, Pulley (pick a size, any size/upper or lower, hey, why not both?!?), shift kit, mass air meter, electric fan kit, some sort of sticky tires (nittos, ET streets, ET Drags, or wait for the Hoosiers to come out), Driveshaft loop (safety first!).

I have a 01, went 12.8 with minimal hook up with a Chip, 4# pulley, and ET Streets...

There are some great products out there, you really can't go wrong with what, or who you choose from..

do the following mods and you will be deep in the 12s or better and will probly have money left over. prices are approximate.

1) chip $275 to $400
2)90mm mass air and filter kit $400
3)boost bypass kit $25
4)lower blower pulley around #4 $390
5)electric fan kit and water pump $500
6)full lenght headers and exhaust(stay away from shorty headers) $1500
7)3.73 gears $650 including install
8)rear wheels and slicks $500


this is only the beginning, but this should get you into the very low 12s/high 11s on motor alone. add some nitrous and hold on!!! the only thing is that your stock bottom end should be upgraded if you plan to run 11.90s or better and that is where the big $ comes in. i am a big fan of JDM and is where I have gotten all my stuff from so far.good luck!

some company has come out with 4:56 gears... you could install those.... those alone might get you there if you can ever hook... but gettin to 12's is no problem with 5k.... i would say if you are not in the 11's i would be disappointed... honestly... you could just install a vortech with aftercooler and you should be there

What you need is a motor rebuild with new rods pistons and balancing and you might have enough left over for a chip and pulley. Worry about the rest later imho.

Hell.....as many that there is blowing up i would buy a long block from KarKraft and a set of Manley rods to put in it......
