2003 Mustang Cobra

I just wanted to see what you guys thought of the new Cobra that is coming out... 390HP, 390Torque, Lightning Blower... Should be a pretty sweet ride... :)

I'm planning to buy one. I just hope the dealers dont get crazy, because I cant bring myself to pay over sticker, for any car.

I got a felling the power specs will increase to just above that of a ZO6 once it's available in May 2003 :) (seeing lots of Cobra info, some times the HP & TQ ratings say "TBA" ) that would be pretty cool, nice blow to the vette!

Ford actually has to many choices now for my hard earned money... Lightning, 03 Cobra, Thunderbird and even SVT Focus... Oh the choices!!

Ford says it traps at 110 so i would think 390 is flywheel hp. A z06 is trapping a good bit higher than that with its "405" rating which is flywheel rated. I think the mustang will become the class of the common sports cars and LS1 cars like mine will become the "foxbody" cars where you never know what mods they might have. Its good to see Ford heading in the right direction. Hopefully they will build a total product and not do what GM did to my T/A. Its nice to have a 300 rwhp engine stock but not good that it comes with such a crappy clutch or a weak 7.5 rear end. Hopefully the new rods for the cobra will be carried over to the lightning as that seems to be the weak link for that motor

Doesnt the Z06 weigh alot less than the stang? That would partly account for trapping alot higher speeds with 15hp more. (I bet those things are under rated too). I also saw mentioned on a corvette board that the Z06 transmission has a more aggressive gearing than the cobra

The z06 weighs over 400lb.s less then the new Cobra. If the new stang can run in the high 12's stock it'll be doing good. The z06 runs 12.4. But with a chip, pulley and filter, this car should be able to smoke a z06, in a straight line. I also like the fact that, even though its not much of one. It does have a back seat.

A guy posted on the SCOA board that a dealer placed his order for an '03 coupe with a list price of $35,020.

Luke, BTW a vert weighs about 130 lb more than a coupe. Don't know where Kim was getting that several hundred pounds stuff.

Yeah Steve, after we talked, I read the same thing about the vert.s weight. So far from just the pictures, I think the hardtop may look better.

A few weeks ago at silver dollar raceway in GA, I raced a silver ZO6. That car at idle sounded bone stock but when he got on it the car just screamed. It then proceeded to run a 12.1 at 119mph! Thats fast as hell! I think that ford will detune the cobras alot just like the lightnings so that they do not have to replace a lot of motors. I can't wait to see how much power these cars will make with some tuning and exhaust. I personally feel that these cars will run high 11's with bolt ons and tuning.

For once, the Mustang is a true muscle car contender. BUT, you know the wonderful dealers will end up raping people over them at first.
If I didn't need a "useful" vehicle that can still tow my boat, I'd consider that or a Z06 also, but I need the truck. But, maybe I talk the wife into one. :D
I am just glad to see Ford finally stepping up and doing what they have needed to do for many years!!!
