'02 getting a new engine..

One month of ownership, 2600 miles and a new engine is on order for my '02 Lightning. Took it to the dealer because it had started to sound like a diesel. Service manager said today that it is a really bad case of piston slap. I had a '98 F150 with the 5.4 piston slap and this didn't sound like that. I asked about the issue of the first oil change, which I had done about a week ago. I used the Ford 5W20 crap and a Motocraft 820S filter. Didn't really want to answer my questions, especially when I asked about the possiblity of ford using a friction modifier to quiet down the engines. Says he is not aware of Ford doing this.

He didn't want to say anything because you know more about the problem than he does. The friction modifier leaves with that first oil change. Ford really needs to get with the program and do a better job of engineering and not farming it out to outside sources for development. Like the old saying, "if you want something done right, do it yourself."

Maxboxa, I am going to use the car for the 28th event, but I was planning on taking the L out for a few laps. I will have to see how many miles I have on the new engine before I do now. I will be towing my car with it on the 26th and the 28th. There will probably be at least two Lightnings running on the 28th. i have been to several events where they have run, and have generally been impressive. I do plan on making it more track worthy too, bigger brakes, handling and tires. But need to save some $$$ first. I am going to try one of the harness bars for a 5 point.

Morpheus, It will be a new Lightning engine, s/c and all so I don't see how it would effect the resale value. I usually put a lot of miles on a vehicle in a short period of time, so I am pretty much at the lower end of resale value anyway.
